The conversation went "DD has handed me the pack of cards I ordered. It's got the picture DD designed on it' aw they're canny" which got the reply "oh I've seen those, they're tiny. Hope I'm not getting one. I'd like one with aunty on".
I don't think she was snubbing DD or her design, I just think she's seduced by size and status, as always. No skin off my nose other than I think she has a bliddy cheek.
6 hours away isn't far away enough sometimes :rotfl:0 -
I received a letter int he post today saying that my rent is nearly £150 in arrears, I called them and it seams I or they forgot to tell me about the rent increase. So I have that to find. It never rains but it pours sometimes.
It doesn't seem right that they can forget to tell you and then just tell you you owe it. I agree with Kidcat, you should look into avoiding that one.
Fuddle, if she wants Aunty on the card, get a nice gold pen and help DD to write in on there (at least that's the polite version, you don't want to know what I think you should really write there....)
For Christmas magazines, over here I order them to borrow at the library, or pick up previous years cheap in charity shops. There's only so many ways they can write about the same thing.I agree in most cases, but it's great for disabled people especially those who have lost limbs.
I hadn't even considered that, a problem I wouldn't have thought of.
Last nights dinner was an effort filled balls-up. Entered a competition to taste test a chicken thing from the supermarket. I say thing, because it was a partly deboned chicken, covered in a marinade, ready to cook. Was happy to win it, since it should have cost about 6 quid and free food is always a good thing. Alongside this I decided to make a spiced quinoa dish I'd seen on the internet. Since quinoa is all the rage and I'd found a pack reduced.
Well, what a faff. Quinoa is the polystyrene bead of the food world. Sticks to everything, shoots off in random directions. I found some more of it making breakfast, it was stuck to the side of a cupboard.
The taste of the chicken bore a strong resemblance to hand soap, but it was greasy. Also, by removing *some* bones, they made it harder to cut up or move, yet left the bits with the irritating bones in. The quinoa.... meh.
The leftovers should have done us today too, but they're in the bin. Tried rinsing the leftover chicken off, but to no avail. Bleargh. Even hubby who happily eats any failed kitchen experiment had to speak up last night. So it's mushrooms on toast instead today and he'll be happier.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -
Fuddle as the others have said, I love the cards my dd makes at school and always buy some to send to family. I don't understand why someone would turn their nose up at it?!
MrsLurcherWalker glad you've found something to help your dog. My parents dog, our family dog, is elderly now and really not great, she paces constantly. I might suggest they try what you've been using.
Cake your cat sounds a lot like my little kitty, the same age. We get death brought home daily, sometimes multiple times a day. If we keep her in when its cold she gets crazy with pent up energy and flies around knocking things over! But we love her and wouldn't be without her, she's also been great for our old man cat and has given him a spark
Had a good day today, loads of Christmas bookings coming in for the pub. Going to be a busy one I think!
We *might* be able to persuade our deputy not to leave but to take less responsibility for a while after a chat today revealed he has lots going on at home that he's struggling with.
A pta meeting tonight went well and it seems we're becoming a bit more productive than we have been previously :T
Friday tomorrow and I'm looking forward to a weekend with dd and getting to the allotment after 2 weeks of not visiting it! :eek:0 -
Fuddle there is absolutely nothing better than cards and presents made by children themselves. I still have all the ones my DD made me.
She still makes personal ones just for me (and she's now 22) and is brilliant at getting them just right. They're clever and funny with family in-jokes and show how well she knows me. I hope she never decides she's too old to do them (or I'm too old to receive them).0 -
fuddle - I don't think I would waste those precious cards on your family.
nutty - Sorry to hear of your rent rise, perhaps you could come to some arrangement to clear the arrears.
Possession - Great news on the house offer, will you accept?
cake - Your cat sounds to be a character, love his name!
nursemaggie - Glad you got a decent taxi driver but what a long day for you.
softstuff - Sorry but I was laughing at your meal, I sometimes buy something 'different' and watch DDs face as she eats it. The comment is usually ' well, I'm full now, not sure I would like that again though!'
I have a hospital appt this morning, I had a 'thing' on my nose (basically sun damage) and had to apply cream every night for a month. Going back to see if it has gone. I think it has but it will be looked at under a magnifying glass. Work after then I'm off down south to stay with my Aunt, will see what happens at the party tomorrow after I said my piece to my cousin.
Take care and have a good weekend.0 -
Morning all
Have turned the central heating on for my lot not up yet but I am sweating in my nightie - my cold or my age?
Posh cat woke me at 5.45 using his "desperate for a wee" cry. I stumbled downstairs half asleep and opened the door and he went straight to his bowl. I went for a wee myself, cat still at his bowl. Crawled into bed, got all nice and cosy and you guessed it - posh cat again. Opened the door and he flew out like Usain Bolt. Cats!!!!
Good luck with your appointment Camelot. Have a good day everyone

fuddle Your sister is not just six hours away, she's living in a totally different universe altogether. But you have always known that anyway. I would be tempted to send her one of these "tiny" cards your DD designed with the word "Aunty" scrawled on the front in biro. If you have any left, that is, after sending them to people who appreciate them. One life - your life - live it!0

Give us your sister's name and address fuddle and the entire OS gang will all send her a tacky Aunty card timing it so they all arrive on the same day. She won't be able to get out of her house due to the pile on her front doormat! One life - your life - live it!0
