I can tell it's cold by the holes in the bread after trying to spread the contents of the butter dish

We've been working on our Christmas plans this evening, the girls and I. We have decided to make our own crackers this year. We're thinking putting candy canes in them. So we have to save our toilet roll innards. I hope there's time :rotfl:

Really enjoying crocheting my cardigan. It's going through wool thick and fast. I won't take it to work (breaks in car) at the weekend, as I need a pattern. I'll take my scarf as that's easy.

Will start reading unplug the Christmas machine later on. I've had to bite my tongue already with a member of family up North. They have expressed certain displeasure at the thought of a card designed by youngest DD. The school have had each child's design printed onto a card. I bought a pack of 12 but it seems my lot don't think that's a good enough sentiment. My sister would like an aunty card. My sister can go tittle. I really feel like saving DD's card for some one who will appreciate it and send her a generic card.

I have a week off booked first week of December and very much looking forward to it. :D

I have walked past the Good Food Christmas magazine umpteen times and wondered whether to buy it. I haven't bought a magazine for years - who needs them with Pinterest - but I'm drawn to the Christmas special. Anyone had a look at it? Worth buying?
  • Fuddle, anyone who had the audacity to turn their nose up and something prepared with love and care would get nothing from me, but maybe I'm mean. I haven't looked at the GF xmas magazine, but we have a few of the past issues--some we bought and a few from MIL who buys and passes them along. They always seem to have several things we actually use. I esp. like the recipes rated by 10,15 and 30 minutes although not sure if this would feature in a special issue. They're great for planning a quick meal for those hectic nights and don't ALWAYS rely on expensive pre-made stuff (but sometimes do).

I normally buy a Christmas mag - it's the only time of year I do but I'm not brand fussy - which ever one looks like it's got the most interesting things in for me. Then I normally do the - Ohhhh that's a good idea...I could do that.....and never do.

I do love hair cut day - although I did manage to scare myself walking past the mirror as I was having a real blonde moment and forgot I'd had it cut.

Cake - Jeeves sounds like a splendid cat, all 5 of my moggies are wandering around a bit lost at the lack of warm outside play areas. I had 2 mice yesterday - one dead (and beheaded) the other alive and let go under the dresser......I managed to get the broom under, pulled it out and it ran straight into the box I'd put on the floor to catch it under...clever little thing - it got released to go hide outside. I had an AF order arrive today so there's currently a box of each cat to sit in, we all know how cats like a box or 5!

Fuddle - I think I'd be sending a generic card with "Aunt" drawn on the front in marker pen! The cheek of it, I'd love to receive a card designed by one of my nephews or niece.

It's really cold here tonight, it's lovely. Just about to light the fire and settle down for a bit of tv and crafting, will bribe DD1 to make a pot of tea :)

  • FUDDLE they really don't deserve you do they love? I think that cards made by little people specially for you are such a special thing to get for whatever occasion they cover, I've still got every card my girls ever made me and I treasure each and every one of them, makes me remember the day when I look back on them. You send an ordinary one, don't spend hard earned cash on one saying Auntie, it will only go in the bin after christmas and be wasted won't it? You stand your ground petal, don't be pushed!!!

I agree with everyone Fuddle who can be so rude as to dis-respect a child  I wouldnt bother sending them a bl**dy card at all. Sorry it really annoys me children are precious and you are such a kind Mummy. Dgs made 'something' for his Grandy with a plastic roses tin (Iykwim) and will be treasured for several days before I scrub it up and fill it with mince pies for him and his parents. :D

Had a busy day, well a busy crafty day playing with air dry clay and gingerbread men cutters. It was so cold in here earlier I had to keep busy. Turned up the heating a smidge so tomorrow will be better.

Fuddle I always used to buy the Christmas Good Food edition, without fail, and I kept some of them for years. I say go for it, for a special seasonal treat.
Sorry to hear about your rent Nutty, that's a big increase.
I too would write Aunt in big letters in red marker pen on the lovely card. Point made. DD has just got those too. I always remember the first year the school did it DS was still at the school, and my friend was volunteering to supervise while some of his class drew ther cards. DS's card was a dalek shooting people until she suggested he might like to make it a bit more Christmassy. So the dalek got some tinsel on it.

Agree with the others fuddle I love getting one of those from my grandaughter . I have had one every year since she started school. I have kept them all.

One of the things with housework SQ is the jobs come round again every week so it does not matter if you miss them one week. Gets to be a problem after a few years though. If you keep missing them I mean.

Sorry about your rent rise nutty hope things work out OK.

oo I felt that cayenne pepper Lyn. I once did it with chilly. I feel your pain hope you are OK now.

Got back from the hospital just after 8pm. I have to have another CT scan knew that was due and back just before Christmas. I hope they get the transport sorted for the next time lots of people were still waiting when I left. Taxi came an hour before I left for those of us from Bolton he would not take me. There were ructions because some had been waiting over 4 hours then. They say it is getting worse. Another privatisation !!!! up.

I cant imagine ever having to discuss what cards I was sending to someone, I simply choose a card I feel appropriate and send it, if the receiver doesnt like it well they are free to not display it. Personally fuddle, I wouldnt even bother sending any to her. The sentiments of Christmas are clearly lost on her anyway.

Sheila - do let me know how he gets on with his tent :)

Nutty - if they didnt tell you about the rise, are you still liable to pay? Many years ago my landlord did something similar, announcing we were very in debt due to a rise which we hadnt known about. We had a housing adviser look into it and told them that if they couldnt prove we had received the notice and that it was in the proper form, then we were not liable. They agreed to drop it.

Pooky and Cake - I have to say I love not having your kitty gifts, our only outdoor kitty hunts and eats her prey, very rarely bringing it home. The indoor kitties would probably enjoy a mouse chase though :)

Possession - love the dalek card. DD8 school do the cards every year, one year my parents ordered a set of the cards without my knowing, then my mother raced to send them to the family before I could. I was getting messages from the family saying how lovely the picture was, and I hadnt even posted mine yet!
DS16 found a copy of the one he did back in reception a few weeks ago and was most indignant that I had sent it to people - he said have you seen how awful it was, the elf looks like a Christmas tree!! ( we had all thought it was a Christmas tree!!!!)
DD8 school now heavily supervise the card drawings and use themes, having received complaints from parents that the cards bore no relation to Christmas whatsoever. I did suggest that we insisted all the children drew nativity in that case!!:rotfl::rotfl:

What a flaming cheek fuddle - your sister must be mates with my SIL, she has the same sort of attitude. I wouldn't bother to send a card at all - send her a free e-card and see what she thinks about that! Save your special cards for those who will appreciate them.

sounds stressful at the hospital nursemaggie, hope it isn't like that next time.

Well the trend of everything breaking is continuing in our house. The phone charger for both mine and DH's phones has broken (mine broke some time ago but I can use DH's) The same charger also fits DS10's phone (all 3 are very cheap non-smartphones). In theory we could all use his but I have no idea where it is, think it may have been accidently thrown out with his birthday wrapping paper a few months back. The long squeegy (mop thing) has snapped - I keep it to wipe the condensation off the bathroom skylight so if it can't be taped back I need to hunt the shops for a new one. These are the type of little things that are so annoying!

off to bed, tomorrow is a new day and all, night night

Oh dear SQ. A trying time has to end sometime hopefully tomorrow before you get up.

It is like that every day. Was a bit better Tuesday but then tonight there was a horrendous crash on the M60 Manchester's equivalent of the M25.

Had a lovely taxi driver to bring me back he told me all about his two little boys and we chatted all the way home like good friends. Enjoyed the journey and the delays on the M60 did not seem so bad.

Don't know anything about the crash have not had the radio on yet will listen next news bulletin and go to bed.

I am put off cats all together with these gifts. More of a dog person really and even viscous dogs come to me wagging their tails. Many an owner has said I have never seen him do that before. He does not usually put his head under peoples hands he bites them.
