Mardatha asda have some lovely snuggly jammies in at the moment. Not too expensive either, they make a lovely Christmas gift as they are packaged nicely. Think Mr t has some in too but not sure how they compare price wise.

DS16 finished his antibiotics this morning, but he still has an awful cough. He says he feels fine other than the cough, am not sure whether to get him off to the doctor again or wait for a few days.

Knows voluntary work always looks good to potential employers as well, and is surprising how many people who begin a role voluntary that end up employed, I am not sure what your career is, but maybe even consider voluntary work in schools. There is a shortage of governors even and most areas run a list of potential governors for school to apply for to be an Lea governor or community governors.

I suppose I never thought I'd be out of work for this long so I didn't think I'd have the time to volunteer. I run an RSPB group and used to volunteer when I was at school so it's something I guess I could look into.

It was nippy in our neck o' the woods today. So much so I ran back in to get the girls' hat and gloves this morning. Enjoyed conversation about nature's way of achieving soft towels - the frost :rotfl: I do remember my grandma hanging her towels out overnight and getting excited at the prospect of them turning to cardboard.

I'm trying my hand at moussaka this evening. I'm trying it on the hob with the hope that it will be ok in the SC in the future, but yet to investigate this. Just accompanying with some steamed carrot, broccoli and cauli.

I'm doing (microwave) stewed apple with cinnamon and sprinkle of brown sugar with left over custard from last eve.

I have ordered 2 hot water bottles for the coming season. They don't have covers as I intend to crochet a cover.

I ordered candy canes from the milk man :rotfl: 12 for £1 I figured I couldn't have bought them cheaper anywhere else so why not? They're in the Christmas box. It is filling up but I am going to concentrate on chutney next. I have my mulled wine spices now too. My mam was supposed to be coming to stay over Christmas this year as my sister 'had her' last year. What you don't know is that when my mam was here last (Summer holidays) she urinated on the kitchen floor and we found vodka bottles hidden in the pantry-come-kitchen cupboard, she lied and she had angry spells. She also smashed my 'family' plaque DH gave me when we moved to our new life last year. That hurt like you would not believe. My sister knew she was in a state but chose to not tell me. To expose myself and my girls to that kind of life and expect us to live with her while she was on an ongoing 'bender' was not on and I was furious. Our relationship is fractured like never before but because of that it means that I say to them both that mam is not coming down for Christmas and I have no guilt in saying that. So, Christmas will be just us :D there's a silver lining on everything huh?

Fuddle, you will have a lovely Christmas, I know you will, no guilt needed at all. I take my hat off to your brave spirit, determination and ingenuity as well as all the hard work you put in to create your family life. xx
PS sorry if this sounds a bit cheesy - just wanted to express my heartfelt support for what must have been a series of hard decisions for you to make ...
  • FUDDLE well done you, don't let anyone no matter how closely related or not push you into doing anything that disturbs YOUR new life, it's unfair and shouldn't happen so keep your resolve love and stand your ground, God knows you've earned a peaceful life by sheer determination and hard work along with being brave enough to make all the life changing decisions it involved.

Somehow I seem to have ended up with 2 x copes of 'Slow Cooking Properly Explained by Diane Page I seem to recall finding one in a charity shop and thinking it would be for one of the girls but then found they'd both got it already. It surfaced from the depths this morning and needs a home, would it be any use to you? It's only a little paperback but I use my copy all the time as the recipes work and are tasty. If you'd like it let me know and I'll pop it in the post to you tomorrow, Lyn xxx.
  • Thanks for all the support and kind messages everyone. I was luckier than you Sheila as my surgery is only a minor procedure under local anaesthetic and the hand is not so painful. The surgery has been rescheduled for tomorrow and the only bit I'm worried about is that the aftercare has changed since the left hand was done. The wound is now not stitched but just bandaged and left to heal which will mean longer trying to sort myself with only left hand - when am right handed. Getting dressed could be fun. :D
Well done fuddle. Have a lovely family Christmas.
Wish I could be so strong. Have been persuaded (bullied) into agreeing to go to my daughter-in-laws parents for Christmas as they did not want me to be on my own. I appreciate their kindness and concern but would rather have stayed at home.

Crumbs. I've been catching up on the past ten days so am in a complete muddle now on what has happened to whom.
I am getting quite excited as things gt more wintry. I do a good 'cosy', and the mere thought of snuggly jammies, hot chocolate and hot water bottles sends me into ecstasies.

Ginny: was it you talking about Tshirts becoming tops and tops becoming dresses? I have the opposite problem Tshirts have become cropped tops and trousers which a short time ago sat on my hips and ended on my shoes are now straining round my middle and ending somewhere between lower calf and ankle bone.

Fuddle: just reading about your yummy menus can put on several pounds to this eager reader.

No worries. The Rev has come home with a copy of Paul McKenna's, "Hypnotic Gastric Band." Apparently this is going to be the answer to all our problems! Mmmmm. I'll let you know.

Having had chicken wrapped in bacon with potato wedges, carrots, sweetcorn and peas, for lunch, we are having cheese on toast for tea. YAY.
