Some families already call in sick.....I am good at recognizing international ring tones on mobiles when I follow up absences ! Askingbfor medical evidence is something we do when a child has poor attendance but for a one off one week absence a parent often does not attend the surgery so can't provide anything.

It may be that Heads continue to allow some holidays but the days of 2 weeks off have gone I think. At school we don't authorize more than 5 days and only then if there are good reasons. Holidays being cheaper is not one of them and this is stated in the absence policy.

when DD18 was at high school we had to provide sick notes for both her and DS15 after she had a long spell off with glandular fever, until our GP lost patience and informed school that if they required a sick note they had to make an appointment with him and request it in person, and then go back to collect it when it was ready at his convenience - he got really angry at the time as several other families were in the same position and he was inundated.:)

On a different note entirely we are trying to empty our pool, but its been running since 7pm and nowhere near empty, I can see it being tomorrow night at this rate:)

Good Morning everyone thanks for the good wishes yesterday I did have a great day and both the girls and I enjoyed it very much.
This morning I am off to knit and natter club for a couple of hours then Ta-ra (big fanfare )I am going to get some food shopping and break into my food budget for July at long last.I haven't a great deal to get but having eked out my store cupboard and freezer for the past 15 days I am really pleased with my frugalising efforts. :):).Mostly fruit and veg to buy and a couple of bits that I have run out of.
I also have an account to close at a local bank as its a savings one that gives a lump of interest after one year so it will be interesting to see how much I have earned Its not a great deal that I had put aside for our holiday over the past 12 months but still a nice little bonuswill help to boost it up a bit I hope.
Sun is blazing down already so I think its going to be another scorcher today :):) too hot to cook much for dinner tonight,so a snack will do for me as I don't believe in getting over heated when its onlt food, so maybe a jacket spud and coleslaw, with fresh fruit to follow will do for me
Hope you are all making the most of the good weather it won't last long in this country thats for sure
    cheers folks

    Hi Sarah :j

    Welcome!

I wouldn't stress over the financial stuff or the messy house, you will get on top of it just don't let it get you down, having 2 children to run around after is hard work in itself.

Don't forget that whilst ever you have the interent at your fingertips you will never be alone and the peeps on here are lovely :T

    Morning everyone, and welcome sarah.

Well its already quite warm here. Today im getting my eyes tested, and then will have to return at a later date for new glasses. Im so short sighted I take someone with me to help choose. Specsavers are doing free reactalight lenses, and a second pair for free. I know you can often get glasses cheaper on the net, but I have complex lenses and as my sight is quite bad already, I look after it. I did ask about lazer eye surgery but our family doctor said that I should be grateful I can see.

We went to see eldest DD and her fianc! last night. Things are a little better between us. They have just got a new car well to them. it cost them £200 and just needs taxing. Its a good few years old but still runs so our daughter is happy.

Sad news about the 2 soliders in wales.

Well must get dressed, will pop by later before work. Drink plenty everyone x

Welcome Sarah, jump on in, we don't bite. Anything in particular you need help with or just a virtual shoulder to lean on, someone here can normally help.

JackieO - glad your day went well.

Mar - we have a spitfire fly over most days this time of year accompanied by helicopters (one of those "gift" days where you can photograph the spitfire from the copter whilst flying over the cliffs). It was a memorial day to the Battle of Britian yesterday hence the aerobatics, I love the sound of the spitfires. We should have the Red arrows and some other big plane today as there's filming for a big airlines new advert. They have a gorgeous day for it, clear blue skies and the sea is like a mill pond.

I need to clear my patio and pots today as we have someone coming to clean the gutters/facias/downpipes and all the windows. I noticed some vegetation in the gutters last week so want that gone before Autumn sets in.

Morning all busy day today ds9 is on school holidays as his special education provision is moving premises ready for sept so he has a extra week.
I am looking after my friends baby while she attends a hospital appointment he is such a sweetie :)

Then iv got my mother coming over tonight she is a bloody liability last time she came she got her chainsaw stuck in a log and I had to borrow my friends to cut hers out lol

On taking hols in school time if you have a good relationship with the head and good attendance I am sure a Friday afternoon and a Monday will be okay don't worry just go in today and explain that you really can't afford any other time. I took my boys out of school for our holiday for a week because ds9 would never have coped with too many people about. We are really lucky tho that our inlaws have a caravan at Reighton sands and we can go anytime we like.
I have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar

Welcome Sarah, and any other new people I've missed - you've joined a smashing bunch here! :D

It's almost hot here already, got loads of washing to do, so WM will be k_nackered by tonigh! :D Need to move kitchen freezer into the garage as we're getting a dishwasher - sounds extravagant, but it was a bargain, and we've worked out that it will be cheaper to run than hand washing, or at least no more expensive.

Had a letter from insurance firm that covers us for life insurance, reckon the piddling amount we've paid for 20 years is no longer enough and they want us to treble it! Think part of today will be spent in looking for new policy. I'm fairly certain that the original policy stated that premiums wouldn't change, but I need to check before I moan at them.

fuddle, I would just get the form into school now, look all innocent if they mention anything about fines etc., like others have said 2 days isn't going to cause your girls any problems. I bet there are others who don't care as much as you, and take their kids out for 2 weeks at least once a year - you all deserve a break! There are a lot of children in our town, who go away every year to certain countries in Asia for weeks at a time, claim it's to keep in touch with their heritage, etc., makes me cross, as we could claim the same as we have family in various countries, but I wouldn't dare!

Have a good morning, all, and try to keep cool and calm! :D

    A xo
