That's my holiday scrapped then. £38 wasted. I've never took my children out of school for holidays, don't at all agree with it anyway but felt like it was the only way of getting a break away.

Such is life... onwards and upwards with the tent. ;)

Hold on, are you saying no fine for under 5 days?

monnagran I think I like your friend(!) ;)

kidcat, i'll pick up a form tomorrow and see what it says. I saw one last week and it said they will grant 5 days but anything more needs special request. If it's the same form I will fill it in and put straight into the office. I will copy that same form as proof I submitted on the old form and see what happens. I have looked at the school website and our council and it mentions nothing as yet. Fingers crossed. Just my luck that with attendance of 100% and 99.2% I dare do what ever other person seems to be doing at the moment and I get penalised.

Whichever form you use won't make a difference. BUT I have just been told that had a mum at our school left her request until Sept it could have been authorised as it's the start of a new year, whereas applications now (for Sept) are approved or rejected on this year's attendance, apparently. I have missed what days you want and when.

My authority at the moment do not fine for under 5 days.but be aware that all children's absence is monitored ,so for example, if you take your 5 days in October and then your child is ill for aprolonged period or you have a family emergency and the total attendance drops below 85% - then you could be fined for poor attendance because part of the absence was without permission .
Note that all state schools are subject to the new guidelines - there is no exemption for academies or free schools.
In my school we are not even sure if we can use exceptional circumstances to cover parents who are allocated leave time and cannot change it (and who provide proof of this).
The regulations do not define or give any examples of what they actually mean by exceptional circumstances!

Can I just say that kelp isn't a miracle cure. I have had good results, maybe not as dramatic as Shegar but def good. I still get knackered and would say I've now got the energy of a middle-aged slug instead of a geriatric dying one :)
It will only help you, I think, if you already had low thyroid function.
I've had several busy days and today got up late and did nothing. The RV and I are officially "NOT SPEAKING" and a state of armed neutrality exists in my livingroom. Any territorial disputes will flare into outright warfare I feel.

    hello everyone!

we are back from a week end away with the caravan. we went to Ripon and had a fab time. it was so nice to get away. we didn't do alot which was nice. unfortunately our water heater broke whilst we were away so we had no water:( so we all came back very dirty.

I will catch up later this evening but I did spot the tail end of a conversation about holidays in term time. i will read back properly but I just wondered under the new guidelines what if the holiday was refused but taken anyway. A friend of mine's son and DIL took their children out of school for two weeks just after the Easter holiday. they had permission for one child but not the other. their attitude was oh well we will just get fined.

off to have a bath...catch up later

One of the princesses, I forget sorry. I was only ever on 20mg a day when I had citalopram last year. It was enough to help me but I know from shegarthat citalopram is the 'go to' drug of doctors who start the process, is really quite mild compared to others on the roll and there's other drugs available on the market. Someone PM'd me about No More Panic a forum full of people who suffer with anxiety and depression. There's a section for citalopram so maybe worth a nose. One thing I have noticed these past 3 weeks of eating extremely healthily is that I quit my new course of Cit after a week and have been so happy, stable and have a lot of ooomph. I also take magnesium and B vit supplements as well as cod liver oil and evening primrose, multi vits too. It's working and I'm quite upset that when I went about my not coping with life to the GP I wasn't told 'ooooh lets just take a blood sample, see your stats, see if you're deficient in anything' just 'here, have this drug'. Citalopram was uber great in helping me last year and if you need it, you need and definitely take it! I just think this time round I didn;t really need it and sought to sort meself out a different way. Maybe worth looking at nutrition though, it might give you a bit of a boost. :)

I didn't at all enjoy the benefits programme. You just can't compare and contrast. I actually felt cross at the workers judging the claimants at times and got very annoyed at the girl in the supermarket banging on about wasting money on 'chicken bones' whole chicken when she could buy fillets cheaper. The woman went on and on to the point where the girl just said I can't do this any more. Bless her, I knew what she was trying to say but she just couldn't form her argument. When you have children I agree, there's meat enough for a few meals in a whole chicken to go round. Buy a few fillets, even though chicken, will not likely get around one meal let alone a few.

I did enjoy the great british budget menu and would love to see a resource produced based upon it. Not a £15.99 BB.C book but a pamphlet, cheap and easily accessible. Off to go look at the recipes on the website in a moment.

Welcome to our new posters :)

Girls wanted pinapple pizza for tea so knocked up a dough, added mixed herbs to it, smothered in tomato puree, some chopped tomatoes, tinned pineapple chunks and grated cheese.

    Wise words.
I watched that benefits prog and found myself shouting at the telly. Whist I could see it from both perspectives I was so annoyed when that stupid woman started going on about the chicken and how it was better to buy fillets. Arrrrhhh:mad: What that single mum needed in my opinion was some tips on making that chicken last by using the carcass for stock etc and stretching it a bit further. Some confidence boosting and direction might have helped too. If people know how to cook the basics then less expensive and unhealthy processed and pre prepared food will be added to their shopping basket.

One point that I am glad was pointed out however is that the welfare budget may be huge but the amount spent on the unemployed is only about 10% yet the media and the gov spin would lead you to think it was far more. The amount spent on disability is also relatively minor. It is pensions and housing benefits that make up the lions share of the welfare budget.
    Sorry for the rant:o

I've yet to see the food budget prog will catch up on it later.

PRINCESSX87 In my experience AD are not the only answer and counselling is more important. I think because of time restraints it's often too easy to dish out the latest so called wonder drug one size fits all. I realise that they may help many, but they only treat the symptoms and not the cause. Often they come with worse side effects than the original problem being treated. My oh has been through no end of different ones and the mood swings and various side effects soon became apparent and it is now accepted by his GP they are not the answer. Having always been and auntie m kind of a fiend to all and sundry and now his carer I have completed a basic level course in counselling and found that talking is often the best therapy (for him that is) It has greatly reduced the need for AD.
If you can understand and fix the root cause then your need for AD may diminish. Whilst I know this is easier said than done I really hope you feel stronger and better soon.
If your GP surgery doesn't have counselling perhaps you could ask for info on counselling from other sources. Some charity organisations often offer reduced fee sessions.

Off to finish catching up now.:)

Mardatha - the heat will be getting to him.
Sit down with a good book and a poke of sweeties.
Off to take the dog's bedding out of the washing machine then make a salad for tea. I made spicy veg soup yesterday and it's too hot for me so DH will have to eat gallons of it. Or I could freeze it.

Thank you Elisa for posting the link, our area now fines for any unauthorised holiday, be it one day or five, I know of many of dd6 class who came home from holiday to fine letters. I did training for governors on it and as you say fixed holidays don't look to be included which I think will prove unworkable and punish low paid workers. But its been abused to such effect this year I can see why. I know one family who have taken three holidays this year all abroad and his boss has simply written him a letter to say he can't have time in school holidays.
In dd6 school many parents are successful business men who again use it as a loop hole.

Fuddle could you not chat with your head teacher, explain you didn't know when you booked and see what she says.

So annoying why does the government prosecute the parents and not the travel industry, they are the ones who decided the prices. I'm lucky my kids have now left school. We did occasionally take them out of school for the odd week during their schooling and it didn't disrupt their education. x
