  • CORNISH CHICK can do better than that as I have an apple chutney recipe that is delicious.

    Apple Chutney

2 lbs of apples peeled cored and chopped
1 medium onion peeled and chopped
    4 oz sultanas
1/2 a pint of malt vinegar
    1 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon ground ginger 12 oz brown sugar
    1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

put the apple and onion into a heavy based pan with a little of the vinegar and simmer until softened. Add in the salt and spices and half the remaining vinegar and cook until the apple is soft and cooked through. Add rest of the vinegar and the sugar and dried fruit, bring to the boil then simmer stirring regularly until the chitney is dark and thick. Bottle in hot sterile jars and seal at once.

It's easy and nice, enjoy, Lyn xxx.

Is anyone else having to log-in nearly every time they try to post? I've just written a long post in Word, cut and pasted it here and then had to log-in again even though it says 'Welcome Monnagran' at the top. By the time I've done that the post has disappeared. No, I didn't save it. (smacks hand).

Too tired and fed up to do it all again.

morning all, hope everyone is ok. I sat my final exam for work and got 88% so I passed. The shop will be fully staffed as from November. We have a man from another shop coming to work in ours, it is closing down and he is transferring as he has already encountered 2 redundancies. He will be the overall manager and I am going to be the deputy, I opted for it as I feel the support is needed and having someone else to help and assist is essential. Pay will be around £500 less a year, but I would rather that than worry every day. Money isn't everything, although it does help a lot with life!!

The council installed us a new shower unit yesterday, and its so nice to be able to have a warm shower rather than a bath. It will also be easier to wash buddie when hes been rolling in the mud on his walk. We reported the repair last week, and the new one was installed within a week. Definatley an improvement from previous repair timescales.

Well time for work, take care everyone. x

cornishchick having seen what the office staff have to go through with people letting them down/rules and regulations taking place of common sense etc I don't think I am even going to entertain the idea of progressing up the care ladder. Too stressful and they ultimately have to drop their plans to cover when things go wrong. That happens regularly! I'm not that committed and like work/life balance satisfaction. I feel for you :(

No monna, my logging in is remembered when I post. I have read of many people losing posts lately though. Hope you are well and so sad at not being able to read your post :(

I have had a poor nights sleep down to thunder, lightening and rain splashing off the window. The morning has proved beautiful though, if not chilly.

A chunk of brisket is in the slow cooker for tonight. DD is making flapjack at school so we will have that and custard for afters.

I am meeting DH at the bank at lunch time. We are opening a savings account for setting aside to buy a retirement flat in our 50's. Gaining a family home or getting on the housing ladder is not an option so we are looking long term and planning a more secure retirement. There will be those who think we are doing it all wrong but we're looking for security in our older age and not investment opportunities. I just hope they will allow a bankrupt to open one. I'm not sure of the rules.
  • Me too with the bad night FUDDLE courtesy of a terrified lurcha who beat down the bedroom door just after midnight and took up quaking residence by my knees before the thunder even kicked off!! When it did I was up with him physically preventing him from digging up any corner of floor he could run to and having to chase him round the ground floor of the house until it quietened down at 3.30ish. I couldn't reach him, he was just too far inside his fear. Eventually he settled in the study where I'd put the radio on to mask the noise and I settled down on the sofa for what sleep I could get but couldn't actually drop off until nearly 5 in the morning. He woke up a 6.45 and wanted to play, bless his little cotton socks, but I couldn't be cross with him as he was feeling so much happier. I think it's going to be a VERY long day, yes?

    Hi everyone

Hope those who didn't sleep well (dogs included) get through the day ok and get a good night's sleep tonight. You are a star CC but please don't take on too many hours, you need to look after yourself too or you'll have us lot to answer to! DH has man flu and said the coughing kept him awake. I was so tired I didn't hear him and slept through for once.

Don't go back to lurkdom Rosanna, stay and join the madness. Hope your energy levels rise soon.

    Get well soon ((((( jem)))))
Well done nutty, 88% eh? Seems you have made the right decision taking the deputy manager's position.

DS10 has been stroppy this morning and stomped into school without saying goodbye. I have learnt a long time ago not to take it personally, he has had such a lot to cope with these last few weeks and hormones have definitely kicked in poor lad. He has his final test this afternoon and then we whizz off to another open eve, it will be a long eve and I am dreading it. This is the end though today other than a random open eve in a couple of weeks time and a school visit in the day on Thurs which DS won't mind as he misses school. DH is taking annual leave to take DS7 home on the bus and do his tea and bedtime, it is too late for him and calmer with just me and DS1O on our own.

I won't eat until late this eve so I have just had a sandwich and satsuma (and feel stuffed) and then will eat something else before the school run otherwise I get light headed and grumpy and I need to be calm and collected. DS will have to eat snacks during the car journeys and then can have beans on toast or leftover lasagne when we get home.

Went to farmyardfoods this morning and the whole store is in the process of been rearranged making it difficult to find things with staff everywhere filling up. A couple of things like frozen mushrooms seem to have vanished, I hope they are not being discontinued as they are a staple in this house, added to lots of meals to bulk them out. Some of the prices have gone up noticeably and things like fishfingers were scattered about in 4 different aisles whereas before all together. Good news though they have started the £2.50 off £25 spend vouchers which I used this morning.

We have sun today so washing about to go out and I am doing chores now til an early school pick up. The place looks a right mess again. I have to wait for 1.5 hours for DS doing his test and the school are letting me stay in reception as we live a distance away and the traffic will be heavy. So saving petrol and I will take my e-reader and chill out. :)

Enough of my usual rambles (for now anyway :D)

So sorry for you both. As you know I have similar nights with Molly and do sympathise x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • He's worth it MOLLY it's just that at 3.30 when you've not had any sleep the idea of Lurchaburgers in the freezer is very appealing isn't it? Poor old chap gets so scared just like Molly puppy that he can't be helped until the scary thing is over. Thy give us more in unconditional love than they take back in sleeplessness though don't they so I wouldn't be without him xxx.
