Have a lovely weekend Mrs LW.
VJ's Mum it sounds like you handled it well, and though it was a shock (for DS too I expect) it will pass and things will be back to normal. I agree that I hope the other boy was punished too. And I hope he'll now think twice about making comments like that.
Kez I'm sorry people are treating you this way. They don't deserve another moment of your time and attention. Feel free to ignore, but DH is now much much better than he was and says (as well as the anti-Ds), a book has really helped him:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mindfulness-practical-guide-finding-frantic/dp/074995308X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1373699778&sr=1-1&keywords=mindfulness
Just in case it's of any help.
Had a mum's night out last night and as I was the only one driving and not drinking, a cheap night for me. I suspect I feel a lot better this morning than the others too!

Edit: I don't think they stand a chance of being able to ban packed lunches. For every unhealthy packed lunch there will be a healthy one, and our school dinners are £2.20 each, so £4.40 a day for me. There's some families at our school with 4 children so £8.80 a day for them. Just not going to happen.
Also, I've seen this on another forum: Banning packed lunches would force the purchase of foods supplied by the usual suspects, Compass, all of whom provide the current food served in English schools. The report recommending the banning of packed lunches was commissioned by Leon, a restaurant chain.
and also this: Well just googled any connection between Gove and Henry Dimbleby who runs the catering company involved in this and apparently it was reported they holidayed together last summer.

Un-lurking again briefly! I do read regularly though...

VJ's Mum, I wouldn't panic too much about your son's reaction, I can understand exactly how it could have happened - at first he was too hurt and sad at the comment to do much or to acknowledge the anger he felt too, and retreated into himself to avoid getting hurt any more. As the sadness and hurt faded a little, the anger increased until the point where he felt he needed to return the pain. The amount of time the process took just shows that your son is very sensitive and probably still struggling with his Uncle's death.

What have you planned for him to do on Monday when he's excluded? My parents would have said something like 'obviously we can't let you laze around watching TV all day, coz then it wouldn't be a punishment, would it?' then either asked what I thought a suitable punishment would be, or suggested something and asked if I thought it was fair.
My suggestion (because I'm sure you've had a chance to discuss the incident and gone through better ways he could have handled it) would be something not too big and dramatic because he's already feeling bad enough, but that will make him think things through a bit more and could have a theraputic effect, like writing a letter to the other boy, explaining why he hit him when he did, and apologising sincerely for doing so. He should make it clear how hurt he was by the comment, and ask the other boy to think carefully before making such hurtful comments in the future. He should also explain that he now knows of other ways to deal with such issues and will try not to react in the same way in the future.

On another note, I'm seriously tempted to try the kelp. I'm waiting for a referral to the chronic fatigue specialist, having had what seemed like litres of blood removed for tests, which all came back normal, including the blood sugar test which I was a little surprised about. Of course, the bizarre, illogical and possibly illegal things happening at work (can't go into any details, it could go to tribunal etc!) have made me incredibly stressed, which makes it much worse, but the fatigue & other symptoms started long before the issues at work. I'm just trying to hang on for the last week and 2 days until the summer hols, without needing to take sick days to sleep as we don't get paid for the first 2 days of sick leave any more... At the moment, I'm forcing myself to do the social things OH has organised at weekends. I do enjoy them when I get there, but I feel knackered afterwards, and have been known to nap on a friend's sofa/ spare bed for an hour or two in the afternoon while everyone else continues to play card games and watch movies. I end up sleeping at almost every possible opportunity rather than going out and doing a hobby I love (and which brings in the odd fiver selling to friends and colleagues - very welcome at the moment with OH not bringing in a salary...) On the plus side, I had a good lie-in this morning, so may just be up to an hour or two in the workshop today before OH picks me up for our first role-playing session this evening. The workshop is nice and cool, so will be a good place to be on such a scorcher of a day! My poor ferrets hate the heat though, they are flopping around looking at me with pathetic eyes instead of bouncing like kittens on caffeine, which is their normal mode of play. I will put a frozen water bottle in the cage for them this afternoon when it starts to get really hot, and leave a fan on when we go out to circulate the air a bit. I might let them play in the bathroom briefly later on; if I put a shallow puddle of warm water in the bath they don't mind it too much, and having wet fur does cool them down quite a bit. Cold water is too much of a shock though, and I can't blame them for that!
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!

Would you share where you all get your kelp from?

Great news Shiela, I was tempted before but certain now there's another trooper of a lady positively appreciative of the effects.

Possession surprise surprise - ill scratch your back if you scratch mine no doubt.

Just de-lurking to say VJ`s Mum - I agree with Babyshoes` comment there, I can understand why your son didn`t hit the other lad straight away as this isn`t his normal behaviour, and why his anger festered - even without the input from his peer group. Don`t despair, he hasn`t turned into a monster, and hopefully both he AND the other boy will have learned something now. I wouldn`t be making him write to the other boy though, just let them both move on.

I've been out on the bike all day, we did 100 miles round nice lonely wee roads in the hills and stopped for tea at Moffat. The kelp certainly did wonders for me, I think everybody with ME or low energy should at least give it a try.

How are you finding them Mrs C? Could certainly do with an energy boost at the moment.

Overcast and foggy here most of the day, we had about half hour of sun and then the cloud thickened again. It's lovely temperature wise, warm but not hot.

Fluffy kitten is very alert and purry today but has an upset tummy again, she was very piggy yesterday and ate lots (only chicken) but im guessing these antibiotics don't agree with her either.

Great day here in Oban too :j

Splashed out with the bus to town (pulled a muscle in my knee a while back and still not up to scratch). A quick nip into work to congratulate the owner on our month's anniversary then off to the library. Sadly no books as ear splitting screaming from brats, legged it and will try again on Monday when (fingers crossed) it'll be quiet.

Made a huge pasta bake for Monday, beef casserole for tomorrow and scrubbed the house. Laundry also all done and wardrobes sorted out :D

Nearly time for a cold beer in the garden (as long as neighbour's loon girlfriend is absent)
