Hi MONNA DD1 's house is a victorian semi with those wonderful old Minton Tiles in the hallway. They were in a very uncared for condition when she moved in and no matter what she did they looked sad!!! She's recently aquired a steam mop and that did an extremely good job in cleaning said tiles but because of where they are, they continutally got dirty again. He Who Knows has solved the keeping them clean problem by doing two very deep cleans with the steam mop, making sure they were totally dry and then applying Tile Sealant which was bought in B & Q but is apparently also available in Tool Station and from Screwfix. It hasn't made them massively shiny but has stopped them from being constantly dull and grubby and much easier to mop over when they're cleaned. Hope that helps, Lyn xxx.0

Thanks Lyn.
When my poor tiles are clean enough I will try a tile sealant. A way to go yet I'm afraid, the tiles are scratched in places and the dirt is well ingrained.

Mar - Glad to hear she's had some dreamies - hope she improves soon - when fluffy kitten was poorly with cat flu she didn't eat for nearly 2 weeks - I was having to syringe special fluids into her. I was told that when they have a cold/snotty nose to warm their food slightly as they can then smell it, cats are really fussy and if they can't smell it, it's not food. We were getting the stinkiest things we could and warming it for her."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

Oh yes I remember Dual. We once bought a house that was tiles right through and they had kept on putting more dual down every time they washed the floors and never cleaned it off. There must have been 30 years of build up it took me months to clean it off and the only thing that worked was brillow pads. We eventually carpeted most of it.
DD41 was about 3 1/2 then and DS39 18 months so it was a difficult job. There was worse they had painted on top of the dirt all over the house so after cleaning the floors I spent the next six months cleaning paint off and filling holes in all the doors from the dogs scratching. It was a big house.
Victorian tiles reminds me of my grandma's house it had a long winding passage snaking around the house all tiled with tiny little tiles. They used go clink, clink, clink as she rushed around the house. She would never let anyone fix them because she would have had to go outside and down the street to get from one room to the other downstairs.
There is something similar to dual still available it is a disinfectant that leaves a shine. I think it is only available commercially so you need someone who works in a public building to get it for you.
Good luck. I think MrsLW's idea is probably best.0 -
