any fans of A girl called Jack - have you seen this post on her blog? http://agirlcalledjack.com/2014/08/22/facebook-have-deleted-my-page-for-non-existent-!!!!!!-violation/

Hi ,I complained to the school last year ,nothing changed ...starting price for blazers is £35 ..they are only black but have the badge embroidered on the pocket ,when my eldest kids went there you could buy a blazer from the suppermarkert and buy the badge to sew on ,that would come to less than £20 ,total rip off now ,think the next one's I buy will buy a cheap blazer and take the pocket off the old one to sew on to jacket !
School not bothered ,I know that people on benefits would get vouchers ,but we are one of the lucky ones who both work, often both of us doing well over 40hrs per week, I would doubt that whatever the amount of vouchers people get would cover the cost of uniform( ,and I am not having a go at anyone who is entitled to vouchers) ,why cartnt it just be at a real price to start with .
And relax .....£223/ £250 GC0 -
Hi ,I complained to the school last year, nothing changed ..
Does the school have a PTA or could you write to the board of governors. I think its appalling they're making such a killing for uniforms, I've seen several posts mentioning the same thing.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Yes I plan to address it at school with governers ect,
Now both my kids are at the same school come September I will hopefully be move involved with there secondary school ,i was chair of pta at Junior school till last mth ,but could not commit enough time for both schools ,so now we will see what happens ,,£223/ £250 GC0 -
Burtha our high school is exactly the same. They have changed uniform three times in six years and each one is more expensive. Cheapest blazer is now £45 and the skirt is £36. Ties are £8. It's appalling for the majority of parents and they do not allow kids in without the uniform. Their chair of governors is unhappy with it but the head will not move. It needs a full investigation from government to stop this trend I think.0

re school uniforms. understand how you all feel as I too once was appalled at he high cost of them. I was given a grant of £40 to buy the entire school uniform for each child as they went into secondary school and also when my dd went to Grammar school as well It did not even buy the blazer as I remember. My daughters uniform had to be bought at a "specialised" schoolwear shop. My children are all adults now but I still remember the stress and expense of the uniforms in the summer time.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

Just got DD's new school shoes as her feet have grown and am £45 poorer.
On the plus side 'sensible shoes' are making a comeback!

I'm so grateful I'm out of the school uniform buying stage now. I did buy DD2 a pair of DM boots at full price (ouch) but figured it was still cheaper than school shoes, trainers, football/hockey boots, jazz shoes and new uniform. A good sturdy pair of boots that will last her a life time (if she looks after them) was worth the investment.
Local bootfair was quite good this morning, picked up some great vintage bedding, some bread knives (there's a particular knife I like and saw 2 and 20p each!), a carrier bag of bramley apples (then on to the stall selling 10 jam jars for 50p for jars for more apple chilli jelly), a couple of shirts for DH - look brand new £1 each and a really ugly pot that my Mum would love (and she does). I do love a good bargain.
Then popped to Mr S as we had several till spit coupons to use - £6 off a £60 spent, 14p per litre off fuel when you spent £15 on cleaning stuff and double points....got DH some more jeans, half price in the sale and then 25% off in the current promo, stocked up on cleaning stuff and loo rolls, got a couple of bits for "that day in december" in the promo for the girls.....ended up with another voucher for double points on fuel so went to fill up - over all we saved £34 and got lots of points.
Wood chopping, washing and a whizz round with the hoover has been accomplished, now going to sit on my backside and get a few designs sorted for cuts that have been ordered and then carry on with some hand sewing."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Hi Ivyleaf, I'm not too bad thanks. Had a short hospital stay last weekend for a minor procedure but no after effects. Am getting along as best my arthritic feet will let me.
With reference to the cost of school uniforms I can only say it sounds horrific - was bad enough when my two were at school, I used to dread this time of year.Use it up, Wear it out, Make it do, Do without.0 -
Pooky - any chance of posting your Apple Chilli Jelly please? I've got a glut of apples & my chillies have gone berserk so don't want to waste them & I'm running out of neighbours who want applesSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
