I just came on here to ask the people in the south of England if they had storms overnight - Windy Wilson is saying on fb that there were 30,000 lightning strikes overnight!

Mar we had megastorms from about 1am - the full works, thunder, lightning, torrential rain. No power cuts or disruption that I can see. Hot and dry now, already over 20C at 7am and set to build for a very hot day so most definitely not my kind of weather. DidNt get much sleep but up early to put bins out and see Dd off for last day of term at Uni (a rather random day after two weeks off already!). Was hoping to pop into the village for some fresh food but still feeling sick and wobbly from the lurgy so will wait for Dh to stir and see if he will come with me. He's having his first and only lie in of our week off work so don't like to disturb him. Will sit quietly for a bit with my knitting.

Hope everyone came through the storms unscathed. What's it like 'up there' Mar?
  • Mar, yes we had torrential rain, thunder and lightening here in the Midlands. In the end I came downstairs about 4.30 and made a coffee.

It is much cooler at the moment, thank goodness, but threatens to be even hotter later and then storms again.

I think Windy got it wrong there, the BBC says 3000 which sounds a bit better! Glad you're ok with power etc alfsmum. Its sunny and windy and yesterday got to 17 here. Great for drying the washing :)
  • Mar I just heard Carol say 3,000 flashes in 2 hours, perhaps to Windy it seemed like 30,000 :)

    Hi All

lightening woke us up last night - almost continual flashes & thunder very loud overhead & high wind. Watched it for a while as I love it but then drifted back off to sleep! Had a few more flashes & rumbles a few hours later but this morning everything has dried up,calm & sunny. Just noticed my standard fuchsia has been blown over but looks OK.

Skimmed through the last couple of pages so special hugs for Kidcat, D & DD, Nutty, AOT and anyone else in need.

Have had a horrendous week. DS2 (45) had a massive heart attack on Friday & we have spent days in our local hospital. He is on the mend now but Dr says it will take months not weeks. He and we have had the most incredible care & support from Drs & nurses. I was just beginning to get back to feeling normal & I've had a call to ask me to go back for another Mammogram. I had one a couple of weeks ago They say one side was 'blurred' I do hope so 'cos its the side I've previous surgery on 5 years ago. Off to have a shower to smell nice for Nursie ;)

Silva - Hope DS is up and about soon, how stressful for you all. Good luck with your mammogram too.

No storms here last night - they weren't set to hit us but we could have done with it to clear the air. We did get a really nice sea breeze around 9pm that cooled things down quite a bit but then all the ruddy bugs in the world wanted to come in to my house so windows and doors needed to be pulled too. It's overcast and silly muggy today - we wont reach the 30/32 they're talking about here, but we've got to head inland a bit for an appointment so I'm guessing the further in we go, the stickier it will get.

Don't forget to leave some water out for the birds and other animals - they really do need it in this weather.

So sorry to hear about your son silversava (((HUGS))) Wishing him all the best for a speedier-than-expected recovery xxx

nuttyp - hope you feel a bit better today, but crying is good, lets the hurt out. You do so much for other people, it's so easy to forget to do things for yourself. xx

Wondercollie - That's really scary about the forest fires! Hope your horrible migraine is on the mend.

monnagran - Thinking of you with your packing and getting ready. Not long now! x

Lightning, thunder and torrential rain here in the small hours. I was so glad I hadn't got around to watering the garden!

Yep, continual flashes of lightening here from around midnight. I have never seen anything like it!
