Thank you ladies - I have no intention on getting any further involved and intend to steer conversation away from the issue, I do feel that I have offered the only advice I have and cannot offer anything more. The advice yesterday was a general improve the whole life of the family by defining spaces and creating an extra bedroom out of unused space. Its a cheap option that will mean a huge difference for them all, her husband loves the idea and is going ahead this weekend. So I am hopeful
Possession - good luck with the sat nav issue, hope you do get your holiday. If you do get to go even the cheapest android phone has google maps which operates as a sat nav so will be much cheaper than a sat nav to buy - someone you know may have an old one lying about.
Must go a big tow truck just pulled outside - I think they want my car - errrrr I don't have a hire care yet?????? Panic!!!!!!0 -
Hey Mar those prices look canny reasonable! Thanks for that and being a pure wool fiend yourself I know it's a good recommendation
Possession you are not alone with your inability to read properly those papery things with lines across 'em. They are my downfall too. I once drove South out of York as opposed to North and didn't have a clue.
Busy day today starting very soon. Must dash I have washing to get out. Taking a punt as we may get showers today.0 -
Delurking to say I buy the silk/cotton mix cardis for work from Woolovers (wool allergy) and the service is brill. I had to send a sweater back for ds1 (fussy teenager re the fit) and they sent a smaller size no probs. I also just dyed a French navy top to a dark navy with machine dye and it has taken really well.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

pooky and fuddle I am very interested in your cordless Hoover experiences
I was on hold to Dys*n for ages this morning to order a replacement part for my Hoover and instead of music there was lots of sales spiel about cordless and hand held hoovers - and then I read your posts! Our house is complete dust magnet as we have doors and windows open as much as possible when we are home, plus dogs, cats and long haired DDs to spread mess so I shall be doing some research .
Very warm here now, gave up on the weeding to sit in by the fan for a bit. Showers forecast for next few days though and Dd17 off to a festival for the weekend so I anticipate much muddy washing come Sunday evening.0 -
I use a paper map as I have been the on bord sat nav for firstly my Dd when I was little then OH. However I sometimes get it wrong, a couple of weeks ago we set off on a trip only to find I had brought the map of the USA that I am using to make decorations for Ds's blessing
A few years ago I printed out a map with AA routefinder to get us from Manchester to the depths of Stockport ( a few miles away) When I picked the wad of paper off the printer tray I found it had taken us via Plymouth including a ferry trip and all the way back up to Stockport.
Had an entire day of the phone ringing - since 9.30, starting with Big Brother ( immeadiate panic as he never rings) then Mum and the kids every half an hour. Mum has tinnitus and has developed 'musical tinnitus' not as much fun as it sounds. He has periods of very loud slightly off key music playing in her head, which actually hurts and disorientates her. The attacks are getting more frequent and its doubtful theres much they can do for her but Big bro has decided to take her to see a private consultant as a month is too long for her to worry to see NHS. Brother wanted me to do a little googling while he is at work just to see if I can give him any info. Luckily Mum accepted its the tinnitus as many people think they are going crazy. Its sad that she has reached 84 and is quite sprightly only to have this happen.Clearing the junk to travel light

Hi all silvasava thank you so much for taking the time to reply about my strawberries query:) This is the 3rd year of them and my son and I had made lots more with the runners from the main plants and this year they are biggest we have ever seen since we first grew them. I made a big pavlova yesterday from some of them and oh my it tasted so yummy
The weather here is so lovely today, so my dh and I got lots done in the garden and bungalow and when he goes off to work again tonight I shall have a nice wee shower again into my pyjamas and settle down with my knitting and some television.
I got an invite on Friday morning to go for a mammagram so will use my free bus travel cardoh the joy of being 60
and pick up a few things in town afterwards. Life is good:) does it tell you how to make jam on the recipe boards does anyone know? Margaret xx

DH is on the open water as I type. Wish him luck. Another wee sea bream would be very gratefully received.
It was worth putting the washing out as it's all dried and folded. I am going to put away some of the things un-ironed. That's a big step for me, although I do admit to belonging to the non ironing of bedding crowd.
I have been looking very closely at woolovers so thank you everyone. There are some lovely items on there and given I know what yarn costs etc I don't think it is silly money. Yes, compared to cheap clothes it is but I'm trying to invest rather than just to consume. I don't know if that makes sense because I am still being a consumer???
Going to split my night between crochet and reading a new freebie kindle download about class wars of by gone era's.
Supper tonight (we had scrambled egg on toast for tea as DH isn't here) is pancakes with honey and a smoothie made with fruit on the turn (banana and strawbs) with yoghurt and honey.
Oh, had a tustle with the water when I called to pay the bill. She now wants me to set up a direct debit which incorporates my bill amount spread over the year and with an estimate of how much we will use in the remaining months. Their calculations suggest that amount being £26 per month. Talk about frustrating! "No, I used an average of £13 per month pet, can't see how that would increase terribly over the remainder of the year and I just want to pay you now for the water I have used."
Why do utilities try their best to get you to sign up to direct debits?0 -
When we changed from oil to gas our plumber told us to do everything we could to avoid the gas DDs as they would overcharge. I put the money away each month instead for what I know we will use.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Me too, I only use DDs when I really have to. I think it's mad giving your money away every month for what you wont even use most of the time.0
