Oh yes you could, they're handy things and save no end of storage space, the art is putting them close enough to the loft hatch to check them for air leakage very easily. They should keep everything prefectly as there is no air left inside the bags to get damp so you shouldn't have problems with mildew due to the cold. He Who Knows says check the Wilkos website for prices, cos he's a clever boy!!!The bags come in a pack of two and are various sizes, I'd go for the biggest size! You can use the bags many times, they are very reusable!!! OK I'll shut up now!!!!!

Fuddles poundstretcher sell them too, or maybe homebargains or b&m stores. store 21 have them in occasionally too. They sometimes come in scented bags too, great if its heavy blankets etc, wont need to be washed as they should stay fresh.

I used to have the vacuum bags for the duvets but they all gave up over time - I now resort to double bagging them (the charity bags you get through the door are ideal) and then squish them in a suitcase - I've collected a lot of suitcases over the years - tatty old ones that people are chucking out - I use them as storage for bedding, summer/winter clothes (depending on season) and the girls have 2 large cases each for cuddly toys/old toys they don't want to part with. We don't have any damp issues in the loft but we do get mice so I regularly leave bait down in the corners. That seems to deter them from nibbling through the cases.

I've resorted to taking 2 anti-histamine today as my eyes just won't stop itching and running - I've bathed my eyes and cleaned my face/glasses/washed my hair/changed my top incase it was something I'd picked up in the garden but no....so the puffy look it is then!

Dinner ended up being eggs and bacon and it was ruddy delish!

    Hi toughies

SDG - I have been there and done the t-shirt more than once with so called friends. In the past I have just said I am very busy and will get back to you when things calm down. White lies are fine in cases like this! I would let calls go to voicemail and not reply to texts etc straightaway (as you are very very busy ;). If I ever bumped into one woman, the first thing I would say was how very busy I am lately. Can you buy a new cheap sim for your mobile to change the number so she had less ways to get in touch? I would also leave a couple of shopping bags and similar near the front door to grab if she calls round. If she doesn't take the hint, then you will need to be more direct. Stay strong and don't let this woman back into your life.

Oh no kidcat - what an absolute pain in the arris the school are being over the trip. No suggestions I'm afraid, I understand that getting some of your money back after a fight might not be the best course of action however awful loosing the money is.

DS10 has his year 6 residential trip next year. Its the only one they do and I think it will do him the world of good going as he doesn't stay away from us at all now we don't have proper contact with their grandparents. Planning some sleepovers with friends beforehand (another new thing) to make it less scary for DS who I think will get very anxious beforehand but I think will be fine when he is actually there. His trip is £250 for 5 days which I don't think is bad value as a few hours by coach and a ferry and lots of action type sports plus obviously food and accommodation. Having said that it is a lot for us to fork out. I need to pay the deposit soon, waiting for end of month payday. I am planning 5 months of £50 avoiding school hols as we are going away plus school uniform and no payments in November and December. I don't know how we will manage though for secondary school especially if DS gets into a decent school (all in far posher areas)

I am going to try those vacuum bags too as our spare room (no loft) will be made into a tiny bedroom for DS10 this summer. I will need to be very inventive with space and ruthless with clutter. No easy for me!

Pooky the pollen count is meant to be very bad this week but should get better from Friday onwards when rain is expected.
I've never had much luck with those vacuum bags. They always seem to develop a leak quickly. Don't get the ones from Asda they were awful.

Fuddle - ordinarily I would be fighting tooth and nail but its complicated by my role as a governor. It would make things very difficult. I will however be trying subtly to recoup my cost :)

Vaccum bags I have had no success with at all. I have tried many types and invariably they all fail for me.

Pooky - my hay fever is worse than ever this year, I am now trialling a teaspoon of local honey daily to try to overcome it, as recommended by a few different people :)

Monna are you by any chance up to your elbows in parish magazine preparation? I have never seen such a quick post? :)

Off to chat with school again this morning. I need to see a written plan for how they will cope for rest of term and in particular the time he was supposed to be away. I willalso be trying to ask nicely for my money back. If nothing else it would pay for DD8 residential. Although I have car tax to pay yet as well.
