I am back on day one of healthy eating and hoping - no demanding - to lose lots of weight. If I announce it that also means I have to admit failure so I have an ulterior motive. It's not so easy to lose weight on frugal food though is it, it's the carbs which are cheap and it's those I need to cut out. Perhaps we need to start an OS healthy eating thread or do we have one I've missed? I thought we used to have one.
There is the OS weight loss thread PossessionMust use my stash up!0 -
MrsLW - awwww the kitty is so gorgeous,
Burtha - £130 sounds cheap to me, both DD8 and DS10 residential trips have cost £160 for the two nights! Worse DS10 is not allowed to go on his now after a meltdown last week. £160 for nothing makes me weep.
Possession - our issue is calculators!! We have bought many calculators that all vanish at exam time.
SDG - as others have said I would avoid the confrontation and simply avoid her as much as possible.0 -
can you not get the money back kidcat?Must use my stash up!0

Kidcat if it's the school saying DS10 isn't allowed to go I'd be demanding my money back no question.
Yes we have a slight calculator problem too, I think there are about 5 now scattered over the house, as DH needs one too for work.
DS got a letter re. residential trip for next year, £280 for 4 nights in Wales which seems very expensive to me, but luckily he'd rather go on the trip they offer in Yr 9, and there are only 50 places for this trip anyway so only a quarter of the year group will go.
Thanks Knit Witch for the link I shall pop over there.0 -
Yes possession school have said he can't go. And that they have already booked and paid for the trip so we forfeit our money. Am not at all happy as I think he was at to fail when they made this his carrot. However it would be a massive battle to get it back and I am concerned that would damage the relationship.0

Hi all, bit of a mixed bag with the weather today. One minute its hot and then its cloudy and a quick shower. Not great for getting the washing dry. Ive taken down all the net curtains today, so need them to get a quick dry before I hang them back up.
Took mum and DD to the local garden centre and we had a scone and cup of tea, then wandered around the car boot. I bought some veg from a nice man who has an allotment. He appears every so often, there was quite a lot of people buying from him.
Eldest DD came round today and did my nails for me, I had a relaxing manicure and pedicure and now have some sparkly purple nails. i feel so much better with nice nails - funny that.
Hope everyone else is feeling good, old style tea tonight. Pork slices with potatoes and cabbage. not sure everyone will be happy, im working tomorrow all day and wont be home until 1030pm so they can have whatever they want for tea then.
Take care everyone x

Kidcat I would be fighting for a proportion of that money back if it was me. That is an awful lot of money to loose out on. Fair enough offer a deposit amount for them to keep but breaking it down your son won't be eating the food, taking a place on the bus, occupying a bed, needing ferrying around by mini bus, need supervising or using any water or electricity. If, as you say, the school used this trip as a reward and then withdrew that reward as a consequence then they really need to be accountable here. I really feel it is worth fighting asking for a bit back.
Eldest is going for a residential trip to an activity centre as a leaving First School activity. That has cost £55 but we supply much of the equipment ourselves and it's only 25 min drive away.
Phew 'tis warm in't it? We're off crabbing when DH gets in so a quick tea of chicken salad for us tonight.
A really long weekend shift so I am a little drained but finally get to have 5 mins to myself as little ones get changed and read their school books/do homework.
Can I ask a question? What do you 'do' for winter bedding? We have winter duvets and summer duvets (although summer ones aren't really needed as we just use a sheet) I could do with getting the 3 winter duvets from under my bed to use for food storage. The only thing is that the house is that small the only other place to store them is in the loft and I don't want to do that as I know they will get damp. So my thinking is investing in blankets (I have a blanket box) and layering up - the only problem is I am still very much stuck in my 'I have got it, I don't need it, make do, it aint broken' frame of mind and that won't let me buy when I already have kind of thing. Am I best off with the duvets or will the blankets (very expensive!) be a good investment? Should I be making better use of under bed space?0 -
Hi FUDDLE we keep the heavy winter duvets in some of those vaccuum pack bags that you can get in wilkinsons. I can get 2 x 15tog duck down duvets in one of them and then you suck all the air out with the vacuum cleaner and the whole thing compresses down to a thin package which would keep well in the loft, I check ours each month as sometimes a little air leaks back in and I have to re extract it. They're not too expensive and very easy to use. You might find they fit into your blanket box once they're squished flat in the bags and that leaves all your underbed storage free for food stocks. Hope that helps, Lyn xxx.0

Fuddle get some of those storage bags that you suck the air out of, put the duvets your aren't using in them, flatten them and store in the blanket box!Must use my stash up!0

Well I never! I will go investigate! I might even get the double and 2 singles of 10.5tog in one bag Lyn
It's not difficult to get up the loft as there are ladders installed. I could even put my spare linen in a bag, even the winter woolies that are not needed at the minute
Seems I am now excited about a plastic bag! Thank you as always. Lakeland have a large one for £16.99 - You say Wilko's Lyn? I will look down at the weekend as I'm not working down there this week.
