    Afternoon all

Still plugging away at the packing and decorating here so bit jiggered!

Had today 'off' though as DD had a party to go to at one of those play places - for the first time I just left her to it and she managed!!! woo hoo !!! She got herself round with all her friends (if a little slower than them, but they took it in turns to wait for her, bless, how amazing is that for 5 year olds!) and I got to sit with the other mums and dads and have a cup of tea and chat. She took one tumble down the slide but I think she was more indignant and cross with the slide than anything else (it got a smack - lol).

Bath night and then I think we may just have to treat ourselves to takeaway as the cupboards are looking pretty Mrs Hubbard-ish, and I'm too cream crackered to cook anyway - will be so pleased to be in the new house as I am most definitely burning the candle at both ends at the moment.

Catch you all later - X
  • We've tried the sedatives, and the pheremone plug and everything else the vet can come up with and none of them have had the tiniest bit of effect on him poor old boy. When he gets scared, and fireworks are by far and away the worse time of year for him, he goes so far away from us in his fear that he can't even hear us so we can't help him other than being there with him and giving him some music to mask the noise outside, he just knows he wants not to be here so tries to dig his way out and won't stop until the noise stops. He calms down eventually but I can't leave him in case he hurts himself or does real damage to the floors. He Who Knows doesn't fit on the sofa and I do, just, so I get the night time watching duties and he usually takes care of him if it happens in daylight as Dadi is most definately where his comfort is then. All part of responsible pet ownership I guess, but some days it's hard, never mind, he's OK at the moment, Lyn xxx.

That is the advantage of Cairn Terriers, when the fireworks kick off they are either behind our legs or picked up and hugged!
    Must use my stash up!
  • Lurchas are made up of long sticks, hard bits, rough feet and wierd angles, it's almost impossible to pick them up and give them a cuddle, sad, but true!!! Cairn Terriers on the other hand are squeezable brillo pads with cold noses and licky tongues like thier cousins Border Terriers and very amenable to being hugged, in fact quite hard to discourage at times, yes???

  • I've known many wonderful little cairn friends and border friends in my life, I adore both breeds and that truly feisty and independent spirit that they both have, except when it's cuddle time (when they decide it's cuddle time I should say) when they become little balls of marshmallow squishiness and melt your heart with one look don't they??? Love the name Hamish, our old border was Badger as the first time we saw him he was in the depths of a stall at a livery stable and all we could see were black and brown stripes in a corner and He Who Knows said are you sure it isn't a Badger..... so it was!!!

I know exactly where you are coming from as Molly Dog has similar issues and Pops is frightened to death of Fireworks. Some nights I just follow her around, like you, she is our loving doggy and it is our responsibility, but tiring x
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
