FPK I always keep the loaf of bread in the fridge in this humid and warm weather, if I seal the bag carefully with a clip I find it doesn't dry out and stays fresh for much longer. The alternative is to keep the loaf frozen and take out a couple of slices for a sandwich as you need them (well half an hour before you need them really) they defrost very quickly and you never have to throw mouldy bread away, Lyn xxx.

I'd avoid the toxic neighbour like the plague love, if you're seen as madame bountiful because of your kindness the demands will get bigger and incessant and when you can't help because you just don't have the resources you'll be the target of all sorts of abuse and nastiness. Best avoided at all costs if only for the reason that if you are percieved to have surpluses you'll end up being used, hope that's not too selfish of me as an attitude but I've seen it happen all to often xxx.

Morning everyone, please can anyone tell me if Oxfam are still looking for bras? I know they had a campaign but cannot see anything on their website. I am going into town on Saturday and have a collection to give. This is a good place to ask.

Thanks Mrs. LW. We don't buy bread often so will keep that in mind. Might be worth clearing a small space in the freezer for a loaf! I'm torn about the neighbour, I feel a bit selfish, but its nice to know others would do the same!

Juliettet I know the campaign you mean but don't know if it is still on. My guess is yes, and if not Oxfam is very good at getting rid of stock they don't need so I wouldn't think it would cause a problem!

Thank you. FairyPrincess. No good keeping them as I rotate just 3 now. Cannot get any to fit. Seriously thinking of wearing a vest!

    Hello everyone,

Quite a lot going on here especially with the siutation at DH's work, he seems to get some sort of paperwork, email, meeting, conversation etc about it every day. Too complex to explain but very stressful and everything as clear as mud.

Just a quick wave on the doorstep as busy, busy at the mo and have been last few days. Life has been up and down but hanging in there!

Congrats re the house stilty and a very Happy Birthday Mcculloch, have a lovely day :)

    take care
    sq :)
  • Keep on hanging in SQ we'll be here for you if you need us and still be here if you don't. Chin up chicken you'll be OK, Lyn xxx.
  • MrsLW, I remember you mentioning Weck jars on one of the chats here, can't remember which one, but have managed to find 24 220ml weck jars with seals and clips for £40 (expensive, I know) but I make a lot of preserves/jams and was wondering if these would be ok? I usually use the Kilner type jars that I get from Ikea and put them in my jam make to seal once I have made them, am I right in assuming I can do the same with the Weck jars?
  • MOS don't think that was me, I remember someone mentioning them but sadly not myself, Lyn xxx.

FP I wouldn't get involved either. We have been helping one of our neighbours sinces she moved in. As a widow I felt sorry for her and sent hubby round to do all those "man jobs" she would really miss IYKWIM.

We really took her under our wing and was repaid with a stab or two in the back.

I hate to see people in need it really upsets me to the point where I think about it all day but remember what they say

    NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!

I think in the case of neighbours this is more relevant because if all goes south you have to deal with them every day.
