Slugs have just eaten all my cabbage plants.......... I was so careful as well

Hi MAR start the seeds off on the windowsill indoors in a tray (we use those plastic ones that veg come in from the shops) and put in several successive SMALL sowings of seed, if you only do one planting you have more cabbage than you can shake a stick at, all at the same time, all ready at the same time and they split and go off before you can use them all . Several sowings of seed a couple of weeks apart give you a succession of cabbages coming along after each other. The soil needs to be dressed with lime if it's acid and it may be a bit late to do that this year. Plant the plants 12 - 18" apart (read the packet for the variety) once you've planted them out they might need protecting from pests, we have a pigeon problem so we net them, you might get aphids or butterfly eggs followed by catarpillars and if that's the case you need to fleece them to keep the plants safe. Keep them watered and watch them grow, Lyn xxx.0

*waves to everyone*
Hello there, I'm ok and reading along, but have been very busy helping out in another shop as well as still volunteering at my regular shop.
kidcat Try this recipe. It is a fantastic cake. I make it with blueberries and with cinnamon or lemon zest in the cake mix.

Much love and hugs to everyone xxxx0 -
Thank you for all the raspberry ideas - will definitely be using the curd one tomorrow
We went to visit my uncle today, and I am sad as I am watching them make the same mistake they made ten years ago. It seems they have not learnt from their mistakes. Last time they lost everything and ended up hiding for a year from creditors. They have children old enough to understand this time and it really worries me.
Other than that I have been sorting more stuff from DD8 room - we now have four boxes, three bin bags and a shelving unit to go to the charity shop tomorrow - and I am not even a quarter through the stuff yet.
I am now getting really hopeful that I can clear enough to use half of the new wardrobes as an actual wardrobe, meaning her wardrobe can be transferred to DS15 and his can be given to charity making more space.
Operation empty freezer is coming along very nicely, it seems once you get a bit of space it keeps growing at a pace. I think there is the equivalent of a full drawer space already, my plan is to get it all into one freezer then defrost the other and vice versa. Its probably very sad but I am really quite excited to get them emptied for a bit.0 -
Kidcat it isn't sad at all! I've slated OH's next half term for a clear out. Not only do we both have things that became redundant when we merged our stuff (its been several years!) but we've also been working to move from student/temporary to quality long term stuff--for example we were given a nice set of wine glasses last xmas. Of course in the mean time the various mis-matched ones are lurking in the backs of cupboards and taking up space. Sometimes having a good clear out can be as refreshing to your environment as getting something new and useful.0

Thanks FPK, I think the whole mess has really been getting to me so the idea of any space is exciting
Also huge thanks to everyone for the kitty advice, kittens have now bonded and as I type are chasing each other around the living room, chirping to each other and rolling over, diving off furniture on to each other and generally being wildAm keeping close eye though as our boy is 4.5kg and the baby is less than a kg at the moment. He wouldn't deliberately hurt her, but a dive from the top of the cat tree (6 ft high) on top of her would probably hurt. Thankfully so far its her jumping from the top and bouncing off him

Sorry to be posting so erratically but am not only trying to pack up to move but also trying to get ready to go to Corfu for a couple of weeks on Sunday. We are going with my DB and SIL and starting off from, and returning to, their house as we are flying from Birmingham. It would be OK if ordinary life would stop for a while so that I could get on. There seems to be little chance of that.
On Sat it was my DS2's birthday and we took the family out to the local Italian restaurant for lunch. The Rev, Me, DS, DIL, one autistic 12 year old DGS and one lively 19 month old DGD. Recipe for disaster, I thought. Not a bit of it, the children behaved impeccably. The only one who let the side down was the Rev. Mia insists on drinking water from an ordinary glass so she (with the Rev's help) ended up soaked to the skin, possibly caused by the Rev making her giggle while she was drinking. But it was a lovely occasion and I was an inordinately proud Monna.
Right, off to put out the re-cycling of which there seems to be a mountain.

Sorry just need to post quick, have read along so I know what you've all been up to. We went to Pembrokeshire at the weekend in a sweet little (very cheap) caravan along the coast from Mrs C. We didn't meet up as our dogs are so reactive to other dogs at the moment, in fact Lottie really didn't enjoy the beach at all, there were just too many dogs she could see. I ended up taking her back to the car, but the children enjoyed their first mini beach holiday for a few years. We were lucky with the weather, it just started raining when we got back. The 2ndhand shed is up, so we just need to get the run built now and the house buns can go outside and stop eating the sofa. Plus our neighbours appear to have mowed the lawn, how nice!0

This made me feel all squishy insideThere's nothing that makes me smile as much as a kitten playing.
