For a faster reply to any question on the work, history and membership of the House of Commons, please feel free to email the House of Commons Information Office at hcinfo@parliament.uk – they will respond to most emails within one working day.

Thanks

So, basically, this entire thread is a waste of time. Here we all are with access to the internet and e mail is sugested as a faster way of getting a reply to a question posted on a forum.

Maybe not the best use of forum time, then, given that threads *usually* move swiflty, especially if they are 'young'...

Maybe asking questions about HoC facilities is appropriate, given that 'urgent' or 'relevant' are not applicable descriptions.

For God's sake we're being offered the chance to ask proper questions about the HoC and you're asking about the bars??? ;D

DOT perhaps you could give some clarification as to what sorts of questions we would benefit the most from asking you?

Hi Chickabiddybex,
Thank you for your question.

DOT has joined MSE in the hope of providing a link between issues of interest to MSEers and the work undertaken by the House of Commons. For example, DOT also has a presence on other internet forums where we provide updates on debates, questions and inquiries of interest to those particular communities – often we’re able to highlight work that might not be covered in the media and that the public is not necessarily aware is going on.

To do this effectively we would like to tailor the information we provide to those issues that specifically affect MSEers. So if there is a particular subject which you would like to be updated on when the House of Commons is looking at it in some way, please let us know. We can also answer questions about any business taking place in the House of Commons, how the House of Commons works and how you can get involved and have your voice heard.

We hope that answers your question?
Thanks

For MSEers who feel strongly about the issue of catering at the House of Commons, or indeed any issue, we would recommend contacting your local Member of Parliament.

To find out how to contact your MP, please visit our You and Your MP stickie.

Thanks DOT!

There are a lot of regulations out there for example Sales Of Goods Act and Distance Selling Reulations etc. They seem more and more relevant in this day and age due to shopping online. There doesn't seem to be many new laws made about protecting online retailers though. Fraud is a huge problem and I want to know if the government are going to discuss protection for the retailers (as the banks protect the customers) or put some sort of procedure in place that would help the police and retailers work together to combat it?

Hi Chickabiddybex.
Thank you for your question.

As you may know, the Government has recently published the Draft Bill on Consumer Rights. Most Draft Bills are examined either by select committees in the House of Commons or in the House of Lords or by a joint committee of both Houses of Parliament. These committees can ask for evidence and suggestions from the public - this means that individuals such as yourself can comment on the contents of the Draft Bill and make suggestions for adaptations – in your case to do with protection for online retailers.

Given the likely interest in the Draft Consumer Rights Bill from MSEers, we’ll certainly keep you informed when the public are invited to give evidence on the Bill.

To find out more information on the Draft Bill on Consumer Rights please visit our Bills page: Draft Bills.

If this is something you feel strongly about can we also recommend contacting your MP (try Find My MP if you are unsure who your MP is) and lobbying them about this particular subject.

We hope this answers your question?
Thanks
