Ryanair Baggage allowance 15kg - how strict?

We're flying from Stansted with Ryanair at the weekend.

Can anyone comment how strict Ryanair are with the 15Kg limit?

We are 2 adults, 1 child and 1 baby. I have paid for baggage for 3 people, so we should have 3 15kg suitcases.

How much over 15kg do you need to be before Ryanair charge you?

On the Ryanair website it gives a charge of £5.50 per kilo.

If we have a bag of 16kg, will they charge us?

possibly and probably. Whats the point of having a limit if you dont stick to it.
If you assume you will be charged then there should be no surprise or outrage if you actually are over.
On the plus side, you have 10kg hand luggage each too. Thats can be a small suitcase btw max dimensions 55cm X 45cm X 20cm.
Remember too the hand luggage security restrictions are Europe wide now. Either pack restricted, oversized items in your checked in luggage, put them in the polly bag as shown or lose them.

Ryanair are normally pretty strict, but if you are just over it depends on the check in staff. Remember you are allowed 10kg for one bag of hand luggage. Security are normally very strict on only one bag of hand luggage. You will get no allowance for the baby but can take a buggy up to the aircraft steps which is then put in the hold. Don't forget to take something for your baby to suck during take off and landing which can affect their ears. Coming back down on Sunday night a poor baby screamed for about 20 mins.

Hi. Travelled with Ryanair 2 weeks ago. They are very strict on the weight and they won't allow you to combine weight of two suitcases.The best thing to do is to take a small case each with you and put your 10kg allowance in your hand luggage. My wife and I did this giving us 15kg baggage plus 10kg hand baggage allowance total 25kg allowance each.If you are going to Spain you can buy the small hand luggage trolleys far cheaper and better quality than back home.Food and drink very expensive on the plane.You can take your own food on plane but you will have to buy any drinks once you have cleared customs.Enjoy your holiday

Strictness depends on check-in staff... some are nice, some are not - I wouldn't risk it... I would stick exactly to 3 bags all under 15kg each (and that's not allowing yourselves to bring home any souvenirs...) and 3 x 10 kg hand luggage

Just back yesterday from Ryanair flight. Lots of people were being charged for going over the limit and they were charging even if 1kg over. Wouldn't go above 15kg for check in, they weren't checking weight of hand luggage.

Ryanair make their money from people who don't stick to the rules - if your bag is 16kg then it's going to be at least £5.50 excess baggage and it may more as home & Ryanair scales rarely agree on the weight of bags.

and check that you have booked 1 bag person - if you've booked 2 bags for one person (or worse) then those two bags together can't weight more than 15kg in total

A word of warning about Ryanair and luggage wieghts.
Keep your eyes on the scales some can suddenly be over 15kg and have beenset incorecctly or even tampered with by staff.
This is not aspurious comment but a proven fact now, beware Ryan air are charlotens.

We have 3 medium size cases and 3 hand bags planned.

The problem is I have weighed the cases using some very old scales at home - the show up as 14Kg, but I have no idea how accurate they are.

I guess we will have to risk it.

Use your bathroom scales (preferably digital ones).

Stand on the scales, then stand on the scales again holding the suit case. Deduct weight I from weight II, that’s the weight of your suitcase.

Unfortunately bathroom scales - even digital ones - aren't very accurate. the last set I had could make my weight change by 10lbs just by moving slightly.

It doesn't however account for why Ryanair scales ALWAYS weigh heavier than your scales
