Ryanair Baggage allowance 15kg - how strict?

You should sit down and have a serious consider whether you can do your holiday on 10kg of hand luggage (free with Ryanair) or whether you will want to take more than that.

Of course, it will depend to a large extent how long you are going for, what type of holiday and how light you usually travel.
We can easily do a 4 night city break with just 10kgs.
On a week beach holiday, I'd be happy with 15kgs.
I could also do 2 weeks on 15kg, but if it's cheap to upgrade to 20kgs (e.g. Olympic Holidays charge only £3.99 each for that), I'll uusally pay the extra.

If you take hold luggage you can put any liquids over 100ml in there, hand luggage only you are limited to 100ml containers.
If you take only hand luggage it might be a problem if you have a preference for a particular sun cream, shower gel etc.

You will need to have cabin bags of the right dimensions.

Whatever you do decide, book any hold luggage in advance of arriving at the airport as it will be cheaper.

Just a thought, if you ask to see an up to date calibration certificate for the scales are they obliged to show it to you.

I wonder if you are allowed to have it double checked on the scales in the queue next to you in a despute then? Trouble is you could end up being even more overweight.

We used digital scales before we travelled they showed I was dead on 15kg but Stanstead the desk scales had me at 15.01kg.

So the digital scales are not far out and worth purchasing some.

I flew from EMA at the end of May 10 with Ryanair and my case weighed 16.1 kg. I was advised by the check in staff I was allowed 15.9 kg before being charged excess baggage and to move the excess if I could. I could as there were four of us travelling.
There were scales at EMA on departure and spare desks at Girona coming home to check our weight.
Dont forget you can check in your 15.9 kg and then take on another case weighing 10kg but why would you want the hassle of carrying two pieces of luggage. How many of us do not wear at least 1/3 of the amount of clothes we take on holiday.
I have also travelled from Birmingham recently and neither here or East Mids checked the weight of carry on cases only the dimensions.
I think Mr O'Leary has probaly done us all a favour in making us cut down on the amount of stuff we take on our hols. I do however think the hike in prices for summer 2010 for checked in luggage is a disgrace and look forward to more information on what I read in the in flight brochure regarding unlimited luggage if we are prepared to take this to the boarding gate. Anyone have any more information on this as it was almost two months ago that I flew with them?

I've purchased a one way ticket and paid for 1 checked bag 15kg.
What is the fee in pounds per kilo for excess bagage, it doesn't say on their website?

Came back from teneriffe 2 weeks ago we had no hand luggage but had to pay 20euro each case because we were 1kilo over

Wow, motherb - that's a bit harsh! :eek:

I'd have been tempted to trot into the duty free, buy something that I'd use for less than €40, open both cases and stuff some things into the carrier bag to reduce the weight of the cases.

yes pollycat it was and friends we were with had to pay the same,they were only 13kg going out from ema so noway were they right. We also payed for advanced boarding so we were first on plane only the first six rows were taped off so the last few people on the plane who didnot pay got all the front seats :mad:
