mmmm..very interested to hear that about Reus...we flew over last year and they were horrible to us and would not back down on our 'combined' weight which had been OK from Stansted...sounds like they're tryin' it on in Reus. We had to carry our clothes in carrier bags someone else gave us..soooo humiliating...and not a word of apology from the staff. oooo... I wanna write a letter !!!!

Last month a lady in front of me at check-in at Reus was 1kilo over and they tried to get her pay for excess baggage, but she kicked up a fuss because her OH's case was 1kilo under. She said she'd paid for 3 cases, but they only had 2 with them. In the end they let her off.

Booking 2 cases doesn't mean you get 2 luggage allowances

It made me laugh - especially as with Ryanair it would have cost him £150 more

WOW thanks everyone. You have just saved me loads of money. I had purchased what I thought was an additional 20KG baggage allowance from Easyjet for my trip to Alicante. But it is clear now is that all I have purchased is the right to take another bag on board, but still the same 20KG allowance. That would have cost me £240 in excess charges for the return flight. Seems all I have lost is the money I paid fro the extra bag, which there is no point in taking, as it will just add to the weight
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

We just purchased some new digital bathroom scales. Our bag we thought was 15kg is now 17kg, so time to remove a few things! Will be interesting what Ryanair think the bag weighs following all the stories on here!

Anyone know how strict they are with the dimensions for hand luggage?
The smallest width bag I've got is 24 cm and was wondering if people have been getting away with having bags wider than 20cm.

Just come back from alicante with ryanair (by the way it was my first time with them and they were excellent). On the way there they left my mum off with a kilo over and my sister with a kilo and a half over. But on the way back my sister got charged.

It depends on who you get but they appear much stricter outside of the uk.

been to Reus airport a lot of times and I can tell you that the ryanair staff there are so strict its not funny, also I have a hand held electronic digital scale ,very good and handy for these airports, but its nearly always right about 98% of the times its right ,now last time in reus I got weight of case and it was 14.5kg,but on ryanair scales it was 15.5!!!!!!!,weight case when I got home and case dropped to 14.5 again,so let a friend use it going to reus 2 weeks ago but didnt tell her what happen to me ,she used it with ryanair from Dublin not a problem but coming home she said she weighted her case and it was 15.00 on the button but on the scales in reus airport it weighted in at 16.3 ,had to pay excess baggage!!!!,but to all out there using the cheap airlines I think these digital scales cost about £15 and can save the nightmare of going to the airport on the way home and having to fork out £££££££££ on excess baggage also the one I have is about 6 ins x 2 ins x 1/2 ins so its not that big

We have bought a small weighing hook (cost about £4) from a local hardware store. We have use this for the last couple of flights without going over the allowance. The weighing hook (sorry not sure about the technical term does come in different sizes but we were advised to buy the one closest to the weight we were weighing because they are more accurate. This is ideal for the 15kg weighing nor sure my arms would be able to cope with 30kg!
I'd always advice everyone to have a large bag folded into your handbag if not required that can be whipped out and used to off load things from your checked in luggage if necessary. Don't forget all children have a hand luggage allowance that can be used if necessary.
On a separate note I always thought it was illegal for children to fly without their parents, but on our last flight a single guy and his 3 year old got on without booking priority seating. There were no seats together left and the air hostess said he knew the 'rules' and HE would have to ask if anyone would mind moving so he could sit with his son or they would have to sit separately.
Look after the pennies and the £££s will look after themselves
