Ryanair Baggage allowance 15kg - how strict?
Comments
-
We travelled from EMA to Malaga last week.
One of our friends checked in cases was over the 15KG - and the desk immediately charged the £15 per kilo excess (he paid £45... and was not happy). In fact we saw many people being charged - some paying more at the check in desk, than they had for their flights.
One of our bags was about 2Kg over - and one was a little under. We were able to swap things between the cases and use a spare aisle with scales on to check the weight. We also shoved everything we could into our hand luggage (although this isn't easy, as you cant take liquids - the heavy stuff - through, and the hand luggage dimensions are quite small).
A TIP ** - the check-in girl told us that we had 15.9KG for each bag - as opposed to 15KG..... perhaps they only charge for whole kilos???
Also - all hand luggage was checked at the gate - not for weight - but for dimensions, and be warned - we have hand luggage which was certified iata dimensions - which are *not* the ones Ryanair use... (Ryanairs are smaller).
Other tips - are that the extra cost of very lightweight luggage - might actually be a saving in the long run (in our friends example - their nice new cases were 6KG when empty......).. also - buy your large wet toiletries when you get there - two large bottles of after sun at 500ml will cost you £15 in excess luggage fees if you go over your limit - making them very expensive indeed....
Happy hols !!!0 -

just a quick question. I'm new and in june I'll have my first ryanair flight from bari to malta. as I understand I can take ONE 15kg bag as baggage, and one 10kg as cabin baggage? I know about the dimensions of cabin baggage. so please correct me if I'm wrong.0

Depends if you paid the extra Postolar so that you could take the 15kg bag and put that into the hold....
Everyone gets the hand luggage of 10kg but you have to pay extra for the bags going into the hold0 -
Here is the pricing:
Bari (BRI) to Malta (MLA) 11.24 EUR
Malta (MLA) to Bari (BRI) 36.99 EUR
Fees, Services and Travel Insurance
2 x (1st Checked Bag) 30.00 EUR
2 x (Web Check in ) 10.00 EUR
Handling Fee 10.00 EUR
Total Payment Amount
Including administration fee
98.23 EUR
is this Checked bag the one with the 15kg or is that the cabin baggage of 10kg ??0 -
cabin baggage is free so it looks like yes you have paid for the 15kg baggage to go into the hold :-)0

I can't see that it would be a problem but I think you should advise Ryan before flying or at least look on their FAQ section on line. It should have something about medical equipment. I have to use a CPAP machine when sleeping and when I fly Easyjet I always get their written permission to take an extra bag on as my machine cannot go in the hold. They are usually very accommodating, although some check in staff have queried it in the past - despite an email from Easyjet and my hospital letter.ladymack44 wrote: »I have my daughter flying to spain with only hand laugage, she is diabetic and needs to carry all her needles and insulin with her, as it needs to be at hand, we have a letter from the hospital to cover this. I am thinking of booking with ryanair but wondered what the position was with the baggage. I wish to buy a package with lastminute.com but the price doesn't include the bags. Is a hand luggage at 10 kg free or should I try and book it in and pay? I am very confused can any one assist please?0

MY bathroom scales weigh 5 Kilo OVER (or at least that's what I tell my OH)
