Is this worth complaining about?

I bought a used dress from a private (I think) seller on eBay. I won it for £1.70 plus £3.50 P&P. Nothing was mentioned in the listing about the condition other than it was used and there are belt loops on the dress, but no belt and I was fine with this.

Upon inspection of the dress it appears that it has been taken in on both sides of the dress from the waist up, then let out again leaving several holes on both sides.

I can't wear the dress as the fabric is quite delicate and if strained it may just tear.

I'm pretty annoyed that this wasn't mentioned in the listing, but is it really worth complaining about? I imagine they'll only say return it for a refund, but that will leave me out of pocket. Would you bother complaining for £5.20??

It is unfair to leave poor feedback without contacting the seller first.

OP email the seller and tell them what you have said here and depending on their response you can decide what to do.

Yeah it seems wrong to leave bad feedback without giving the seller chance to do anything about it.

I've just shown the dress to my sister and we've noticed the bottom hem has also been taken up and stitched badly with cotton that doesn't even match the dress.

Definitely a write-off. Shall email seller to express my disappointment

People like you are not fit to use Ebay.

Email seller. If i was seller - i would tell you to keep it and give a full refund.

They may have been given it, bought it 2nd hand etc, and it did not fit - and not noticed the alterations.

Any return should be covered by the seller.

If seller does not put it right - THEN you consider your feedback.

So you'd be prepared to possibly affect someones livelyhood without giving them a chance to make amends?

    You are pathetic.

Sorry, typed in a rush, I would of course contact the seller first - consider myself suitably reprimanded. Have used ebay for years without problems - please don't label me pathetic.

I'd question someone trying to make a livlihood out of selling dresses with holes in.

The ideal seller would have checked it completely to make sure that it was in appropriate condition for what they've described it at, in doing so they most likely would've noticed the problem. Not all sellers are angels, twice I've been sent items that have been damaged and obviously so, things like photos taken in just the right way to conceal damage, so there's no way they'd not see it.

It works both ways, and if a seller wants to risk it with out giving a full description (and remember ebay can say what each should be like, used, new without packaging etc, and that it will be compared to that description) then why should they have their say to say sorry, or in most cases deny all knowledge and it goes to arbitration.

People buy, they pay, then want their item and want to just carry on, not have to them pee around with sellers who should've known better. If you sell on second hand clothing it then becomes 3rd, and should be checked properly.

Yeah I'd be the kind of buyer now just to not bother with such a small amount and write it off with a neg, me and lots of others. It might be the sellers business, but it's the buyers choice and the choice to buy that item doesn't work on the basis of having to communicate lengthy after the sale on something. This may not make me the best buyer, but I win, I pay after I win, I expect the sellers side to be kept to after that, and that includes not having the "she'll never notice", "we'll deny it's damaged" and all that rubbish. Having done two cases one after the other, I wont bother with them again unless its high value, and I just don't do high value 2nd/used on ebay.

N.B that doesn't apply to idiot buyers who just shouldn't be let out the house. Maybe that's what I might be considered as being, but I buy based on description, I'm aware of postal damage which is an acceptable delay, but when items arrive with damage pre posting, you deserve the neg after, not a chance to explain.

Well I contacted the seller and asked for a partial refund as my sister can repair the dress. She agreed, but also offered a full refund plus P&P if I returned, but I bought it to go with a specific (and amazing lol) pair of shoes so I'd rather keep the dress and have it repaired.

If she partial refunds as promised then I shall leave positive feedback but if she becomes difficult then I may leave a negative.

I did feel rather tight complaining over a £1.70 dress but it's the principal and it goes perfectly with my shoes!!

I would happily leave bad feedback if somebody sent me something that didn't match the description or was defaced/damaged.
