It could be argued thats a better and cheaper technique.

My rent, and water bill have no extra charge, I checked. The others, negligible.

Bank charges on some accounts can escalate just from the simplest little mistake, so its arguable using a simple (and free) savings account is a wise move.

This forum is about consumers being aware of the position banks are manoeuvring into, a stranglehold.

If you lie down and let them walk all over you on each little thing that comes in before you know it you'll be getting charged in all sorts of places.

Take a look at this thread:

NatWest / RBS is up the spout as we know anyway. Who knows what they'll have to do to its customers next.

However from the general reaction I've observed on this forum most people are bent over the barrel already with their cheeks spread wide just begging to be ripped off.

Yes the fact that I've got 2 bank accounts and Halifax give me £5 a month & Santander give me money every month because a pay my bills from it obviously I'm completely over some barrel and begging to be ripped off?!?!?

Funny how if we're not all little one man army's then we're all obviously bent over barrels!

Oddly enough I don't get ripped off either. This appears to be because I manage my accounts properly and ensure funds are available to cover items due.

Weirdly, this means I attract no charges.

I'm a long term First Reserve account holder (I have an automatic transfer arrangement with my current account). I've just noticed a higher than expected interest payment on my account, along with an appendix to my statement which refers to a "Bonus Rate" of 2%, with "Bonus Conditions" of "1. Increase account balance (by offer date)".
It has a start date of 15/01/2013 and an end date of 31/01/2014.

Does anyone know anything about this? Is there a minimum amount that the balance needs to be increased by? (i.e. is this similar to the Regular Saver accounts offered by other institutions)?
