The closest that I can see to your requirements is a Natwest Select Account with Overdraft Control.

It would give you a Visa Debit card and Direct Debit functionality but would decline any card or Direct Debit that would put you overdrawn without charge.

is there anyone who has read the thread, and can suggest a product of best fit. i.e. a savings account with no functionality in any way to fine the customer. Has direct debits, and or has a visa debit card?

I plan to have Christina Hendricks come round my house and sit on my face but unfortunately "plans" and "reality" are often contradictory.

I'm not sure how that relates to Christina Hendricks sitting on my face but if you say so.

That's not strictly true. See the small print in your link...

By rights you can not have direct debits & standing orders on the account anyway however the bank allowed it in error some time ago.

    FIRST RESERVE ACCOUNT

13.1 First Reserve Accounts are available only to individuals, including
    personal trustees.

13.2 You may not have your wage or salary paid directly into your
    account.

13.3 Standing Order and Direct Debit payments are not permitted on
    your account.

13.4 Arranged overdrafts are not available on your account.

13.5 Cheque books are not available on your account.

They both have an equal chance of happening - None

(Although the Mark Hughes one would be a slight favourite out of the two)

Not permitted, perhaps, what is the interpretation of that exactly? And If I walk into a bank and they do it, then....

I had lovely bank tellers happily setting them up and adjusting them, recently too, when I had rent increases. With absolutely no issue or reference to the t&c.

I think by design the product allowed it, and it was genuinely a great service, which I have benefited from greatly and used fairly and responsibly.

It must be the demise the parent company (rbs?) that has pushed them to attempt to turn it into a cruel money making device, like the rest.

    Nothing is 100% in life.

But as the account comes with an RBS group Visa Debit, which refuses to even work at semi-offline locations like pay at the pump I'd say the chances are small.

It's basically the same debit card as the OP has now.

As stated prior direct debits and standing orders was allowed to be set up on the accounts in error some time ago, so the bank allowed them to remain. However now they are making changes to the account they will from a certain point cancel them, as in the letter which has been going out since March it advises you should make alternative arrangements.

However if your sensible enough you should be able to open an account with any other lender without incurring charges if you can run the account correctly.

The OP needs to open an alternative account - even if it's just in readiness.

Because now that Nat West have given notice they can cancel / replace the card any time they like and they can cancel the direct debits and standing orders any time they like.
