I plan to have Christina Hendricks come round my house and sit on my face but unfortunately "plans" and "reality" are often contradictory.

    Ooh really. heheheh

Well the letter clearly states they are only replacing expiring debits cards, from August. And that, any lost cards will be replaced also with an ATM card.

I've not lost a card ever, so my 'plan' to not lose this one hopefully (fingers crossed) will remain 'reality' ;o)

Additional Direct Debits can also be conveniently set up using the service.

As far as I understand that is just a link to the respective company's web page on which you can set up a DD.

My card is valid uintil 2015, its printed on the card.

The letter states, that from August they are issuing ATM cards, so someone who opens a new account, or loses their card will get an ATM card.

I plan not to lose my visa debit card.

The previous letter communicating the change states they will change them all anyway during August/Sept 2013 ill post the letter up later im posting from my phone at the moment.

I don't think you will be able to use your visa debit card until 2015, from what I've read there replacing them with cash cards in August of this year.

Yes, thats the confirmation given to me which indicates I can use my card until its expiry (in 2015).

"From August 2013 we will begin replace expiring Visa Debit cards with ATM cards."

Think about the process, as a card expires, its replaced. Just this time with an ATM card. They dont just cancel your card will nilly lol

The card belongs to the bank so they can do what they like with it.

Actually reading the letter it's not the same one, ill have a dig around for the other one.

The bank may have changed there mind in relation to the first communication and the second communication supercede the other.

Thats right, and 'what they like' has been detailed in text already.

Think about the logical (and fair) process.

NatWest's process is to replace the cards as they expire.

What other process could there be?

Are you suggesting NatWest plan to secretly cancel my card one random day in August, it will just stop working? Is that logical or fair?

Personally I strongly believe the bank should have not issued a debit card on the account in the first place. The bank can change the terms giving the appropriate notice. So in essence they could turn round in two weeks and say right that's it you'll get ATM card with immediate affect.

Personally I wouldn't have a nervous break down over the card and just carrying on using it until otherwise told.

Why not? It was part of the advertised product! lol I've had it since 2008 and had several fresh Visa Debit cards issued.

Ok, so from the horses mouth "Carry on using it".

As I said originally, until it expires.

Ok so the original purpose of the thread was to find other people suffering from changes to First Reserve.

To discuss the challenges presented by NatWest.

    1) Loss of Visa Debit

    2) Loss of Standing Orders & Direct Debits

    _________________________________________________________
    To First Reserve Users
    _________________________________________________________
We now know, and confirmed by stclaire the NatWest employee above, that ATM cards will only be issued upon expiry of Visa Debit card.

If you have a Visa Debit card, it will not be simply cancelled in August. It will have to expire before an ATM card is issued.

Keep hold of your Visa Debit cards if you like them, until the expiry date!
    _____________________________________________________________

Is there anyone out there who understands the thread and wishes to talk strategies for maintaining use of First Reserve?

I.e. alternative payment methods outside of direct debit.

Or is there anyone who has read the thread, and can suggest a product of best fit. i.e. a savings account with no functionality in any way to fine the customer. Has direct debits, and or has a visa debit card?

Alternatively if there is not one product left on the market outside of the First Reserve post August 2013, is there a method (up for discussion) of using other products collectively in a similar way.

What I hoped to hear is that someone else was willing to challenge the bank in some way.

For example, if the bank have already set up direct debits, and standing orders, is there a legal challenge that can be made by the customer?
And should a legal challenge be made, will it at least delay the time scale, so existing framework cant move?
