Didn't see it posted earlier, but here is another comment about planning
Oh dear Aldi, it seems you do not have planning permission for the Parking Eye cameras in your Towngate, Leyland store.

This from a FOI request to the local council:-

"Following a site inspection it has been noted that there are 2 cameras erected on one column in the store car park. They do not have planning permission. Thank you for bringing this matter to the Councils attention.
The Enforcement Officer is investigating this further and has contacted the store manager."
When posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

That originally appeared on PePiPoo. this is the full text, as you can see PE seem to be in the clear over the other two points. :-

They still use the F word.

Is their answer to 3 true? Maybe the valuation office would have an opinion.

Please find below a response to your recent FOI request:

1) With ref to the Aldi supermarket on Towngate, Leyland. Please can you
tell me what allowance was given for parking on their site when the
initial planning permission was granted. They have now imposed a limit of
90 minutes after which a charge of £70 is applied.

The store was granted planning permission with on-site parking provision
to meet the requirements of the car parking standards in place at the
time. The Council is aware that Aldi have imposed a time limit for car
parking and a fine. This forms a management issue for Aldi and is not in
breach of any planning controls.

2) Do they have planning permission for the Automatic Number Plate
Recognition cameras they have installed?

Following a site inspection it has been noted that there are 2 cameras
erected on one column in the store car park. They do not have planning
permission. Thank you for bringing this matter to the Councils attention.
The Enforcement Officer is investigating this further and has contacted
the store manager.

3) Does the rateable value of the property now reflect the fact that they
are generating income from the car park?

Car parking spaces are reflected in the overall Rateable value of a
property and not on income generated.

I hope the above is of assistance to you.

Regards

Helen Hockenhull

I heard back from the editor of Computer Shopper, he got his charge cancelled.

And suggested complaining to customer-services@aldi.co.uk with proof of purchase, they can get the charge cancelled.

• Thanks for the Leyland Aldi info.

As my local council have refused to respond following my reply to their initial 'waffle' response when I first asked similar questions, I've posted an FOI using those questions.

Let's see what that brings ....

straight from the horses mouth ,as a work colleague got a ticket for overstaying by 3 mins went into the store a week later and kicked off (in her words) .

charge was cancelled !!.

i went one better last week , printed off some flyers from the Pepipoo site and stuck them all over the PE signs in the Aldi Bedminster car park , one old guy asked what i was doing so i gave him a flyer , he looked at it and a grin appeared on his face, as he got a charge the week before he went straight into the store and complained and came out said to me they were going to get it cancelled and thanked me. So thanks to all of you on this site i relayed your advice and one more loss to PE
