Santander 123 Accounts Only Two Per Person
Comments

I've got a 123 account and I just opened another yesterday. I have had an email to say I've been accepted for a new account and I will receive my bank card in the next 10 days. They also said in order to use Internet or phone banking they want me to send off 2 forms of ID and a recent bill. As I already have an account with them couldn't I just go into my branch when i have the account details and ask them to link my accounts instead of messing about with sending ID as they already know who I am. On the email they sent it said that some details didn't match which is rubbish as I have the same address and job as when I opened my original account.0

Do you have online access from the original account? If so have you checked they have not automatically added the new one. They did for me, twice before.
If not as they say there might be some small discrepancy stopping it.0 -
Yes I do have access on my original account but it hasn't shown as a new account. Does it usually take a few days?0

i don't do a lot of research, but my previous experiences have tied-in with what i have understood to be the general consensus. Santander have consistently been complained about in the financial press, haven't they? do they score lowest in customer satisfaction surveys?
You are right, Santander often get trashed in some surveys, and there is definitely a Santander bashing brigade on MSE. Very rarely has any of them actually got any facts - - it's usually hearsay, or just simple lemming-ing.i use HSBC for Business Banking, and HSBC and Barclays for Personal Banking.........but have Halifax, Co-op and Santander accounts for other uses too. i'm not damning any of them, and i certainly don't mind taking their incentives for opening accounts. again, to each his own.
I am with you on this - - there's very little between all those current account providers in terms of functionality. Also, they all make mistakes now and then - - what counts is how they resolve matters. If they offer some kind of incentive to join them, I will - that's how I ended up with accounts with literally all of them. That's also how I ended up opening my 123 2 years ago, and I certainly have not regretted spending effectively over £100 a year on my utilities/council tax. And getting 100% more interest than I would get in some other current accounts.0 -
I'm about to opt for a 123 current account as that seems to be the only way of getting a half-decent interest rate. I already have a Tesco savings account that I am in the process or re-activating - I understand that I can set a DD from it that will satisfy 1 of the DDs that Santander require.
But I'm not sure how to set up the required 2nd DD. Can two DDs be set up from the same Tesco savings account that would satisfy Santander? If not, is there anywhere else that I can go to set up the 2nd DD?0 -
FWIW
I have 3 Santander 123, 2 old eSavers, an ISA updated over past 3 years and 123 CC.
Apart from an initial mix up when I first opened my ISA which was 50/50 their fault, which they compensated me £35 I have had no problems at all.
I have never been into a Santander branch and apart from 1* thing on the on line service its is great as is the phone app.
If I did have a problem I would get it sorted out as without doubt it has been the best overall place for my money over the past 3 years. All that said if someone better came along I would switch.
The * is my concern over the ISA online where I believe there should be a warning if you try to withdraw/transfer as, as someone here found out, it can easily be done.
As I said FWIW
