aaaw ff, you is lucky - just had another look round and can't see any, got loadsa plants in me garden to support little critters but no ladybirds.
Sylv, the bees are doing well here too, I have various plants for them including 4 yucca plants that produce huge flowering things, beaut perfume and the bees absolutely love them. They strip the pollen bare - glad to be of help to them.
Am fairly scared of wasps tho!!! Guessing they will make an appearance soon? I tend to keep my distance due to various stings over the years

The Lotto should allow you to buy a stake 50p. (or £1 when it goes up) At least with the bookies you can do that.
bless yr puddy :beer:0 -
I love sweet peas as well iluvcats but forgot to put them in this year.
I didn't know bees loved the yucca Alfie. My DD2 got me one a couple of years ago, first winter I wrapped it round with straw and then put a garden blanket thingie on it and it surgived not too bad. Last winter I did the same and when I uncovered it all the leaves were brown so my DD1 cut them all off leaving it bare. It has started to produce more shoots at the bottom but don't quite know what to do with the 2 foot of bare stalk above it. Would it be OK to cut it off??
Just having a break as have a wardrobe to put up but had to empty old one first and take it down which is taker rather longer than I thought it would. Would get done quicker if I didn't spend so much time in the Inn :rotfl::rotfl: also DH has just informed me that he has put tonic and coke in fridge so he can have a rum/coke and I can have a vodie/tonic :rotfl::rotfl:maybe it will get finished tomorrow!BIG THANKS TO ALL WHO POST THE COMPETITIONS0 -
Just back from the garage sales and they were brilliant. It took just over 4 hours to look around as there were over 50 homes taking part (we even ignored some towards the end as we were too hot and exhausted) I'll post a picture of all my purchases tomorrow as there were too many to remember. We're going to a park in Cambridge later for some free music event.
Right, time for a very late lunch and to put my feet up for a few hours.0 -

Sylv - just been having a google for you. My yucca plants are now 15 years more old and have never covered them, afraid they have to take their chance tho all of them are over 11ft + high now. Not sure what height yours will grow to?
I do strip off lower brown leaves (some peeps say do, some don't) and also, once bees have stripped the pollen, I clip out the flowering things. They grow again each year. Got a feeling I had a similar prob years ago in previous house with smaller yucca?
Seems you may be able to cut stem down a wee bit to encourage new growth from the bottom. It takes a while, but they get there in the end. If you have new shoots then the critter is surviving
Have to admit, I have other 'tropical'/meant to be hardy plants in the garden and although some didn't do well after inclement conditions, they all perked up and showed new shoots at the base. I cut them down slightly to give shoots a chance and they are doing very well now.
I would go for it, gives the new shoots a chance. You have nothing to lose.xxxxxxx
