Lodge a complaint with the bank...

Zaxx, can you suggest anything Mr Wilson might complain about?

I ask because I think HSBC should be thanked by Bob for them generously waiving the £12 fee.

I am not quite sure HSBC have done anything wrong here.

    As I understand it, the OP;

    - Has a Credit Card with X limit
    - Has a bank account
    - Has a Direct Debit which pays off their credit card each month from the bank account
    - The OP has gone over their credit card limit of X
    - The OP is outraged that his card has now stopped working because they have gone over their limit

I get the feeling the OP doesn't know how credit cards or direct debits work.

I'm not outraged it's gone over its limit. Re-read the thread.

Then what led you to write:

    yes, that sentence, and this:

"To top it off, giffgaff have now stopped my mobile phone, so I'm stuck without a phone, and the credit card is still getting declined because it takes up to 48 hours for them to re-enable it apparently."

pretty clear, but if you need clearer: my phone was cut off because the credit card was declined. How's that?
Can't you use the debit card linked to the bank account with a balance 3 times the limit of the credit card that was declined?

    Or have I missed something?

you've mis-quoted me. Add the second half of the sentence on and it makes more sense.

ya. you get more protection with a CC than a DC, thats why people use CC's

The bit about being outraged it went over the limit.

I'd expect them to at least call the customer or send an automated warning, or, certainly not put them across to debt collection before even talking to the customer, especially if there's more than enough in his bank account to pay it.

But it has already been explained to you that credit cards offer no more protection unless the purchase is over £100.00.

Do you pay Giffgaff more than £100 a month?

If so, there are probably better deals.
