What do you think the limit on your credit card is for? If it simply debited money as needed from a second account there would be no need for a limit, would there? Did this not give you a clue as to how the process works?

Your account, you spent more than you had available

Re-read the thread. I think the whole point is that I didn't spend more than I had available. ;);)

I always thought it a little odd!

Anyway, I had enough in my bank account so it still doesn't make sense to be put across to debt collections. Come on, at the very least call the customer. They even asked me the other day if I had done a few transactions, and never mentinoed anything about it being over the limit!!

credit cards offer protection, debit cards don't. You should ALWAYS use a cc, especially when buying online.
    That is simply wrong.
Have a read of MSE's Chargeback article for details.

    what is a charge card?
You run your own business and you need to ask that?

A multi millionaire isn't going to have a card with a "pathetic little limit", they'll have a charge card with no limit.

You should always use CC's as they offer protection, especially online.

Are you saying debit and charge cards offer the same protection as CC's? I just got off the phone from HSBC who would seem to differ.

In the old days the company would have called and said you this transaction will take you over your limit, what would you like to do about it. Then the OP would have the opportunity to transfer money or decline the transaction.

    Thank you! Good ole days..

Ok, I have re-read the thread.

Sorry, you'll have to explain further.

    What does this mean:

After 45 minutes on the phone, they told me my credit card had gone over its limit, and they sent me across to Debt Collections!.
    You repeated it:
