Turns out to be a different sex?????

Hi,

Has anyone been told what their baby sex was when they had their 20weeks scan and then it turns out the opposite.
My wife for some reason is still not convinced that we are having a boy even after we were told that it’s boy when we had our 20-week scan. She is now 35weeks pregnant
It better be, because we have started shopping for a baby-boy

A lady my DH knew was told wrong and had a surprise, but it was a few years ago so I would have thought that the technology has improved since then.

    Good luck for the birth

it does happen but more and more PCTs won't let their radiographers give the sex unless they're 100% sure as some parents have begun legal proceedings when the wrong sex has been given. We saw our boy's bits so we know for definite that they were right.

Yes and both ways round getting it wrong. First when my friend was told she was having a girl, her son is now 12 she'd paid privately to know as it wasn't routine then.

Then when I had DS, a man who'd had child round same time, told me they'd been told a boy and had a girl. My son is now 7, so this would be 7.5-8 years ago.

I haven't heard of any cases more recently than this though.

It could be well worth the money for you to get a private 4D scan
there is no mistaking the genitals with one of those things... you can see them VERY clearly...
to see what i mean, look at this....http://www.ehd.org/science_imagegal_6.php
if you can see the face this well, there is going to be no mistaking a willy!
infact if you have a look through the videos i think you can see the sex clear as day at around 16 weeks

I'm surprised at that. As I've mentioned before I had to ahve my first pregnancy terminated due to him not going to live. I was just 17 weeks from LMP and was put thru labour. I saw the child after delivery and he looked like a girl, no genitalia was formed, but he wasn't a girl, he was a boy, I had requested an amnio and post-mortem to try and establish a cause and his sex was picked up from that. I was told that genatalia does not develop till later. Is this possibly a reason for people being given the wrong sex??

There was 1 here, which is why they stopped telling you in our local hospitals. We paid to go private but they wouldnt do it till 28 weeks just to make sure they could see everything clearly :D

I was told at 20 weeks I would be having a girl (in 2001) and I was scanned again on 3rd August (day before birth) and was again told it was a girl. HE is now nearly 6 :)

In 2003 they got it right with a girl.

This time we have been told a girl but are taking it easy with the pink stuff !!!

This time the Sonographer said that they have had training and they also had a newer up-to-date machine.

Will have to wait until October to see if her training has paid off though - lol

    T xx

I honestly dont know....but im so sorry to hear you had to go through labour with him, i had a friend who had to deliver her baby that had died at 22 weeks and it was just awful,
having had a look around i think the site is in actual time (from ovulation) where as we count from LMP,
so 16 weeks in these videos would be 18 weeks to us and as we all know a lot can happen in a very short time in pregnancy,

on this page http://www.ehd.org/science_imagegal_4.php on the 6th line of videos down, on the left there is an 'in the womb' video taken at 3 months that shows male genitals very clearly (also shows the naughty fella having an early fiddle! typical!)

When we were told that DS3 was on the way last year, I did say to the radiographer that we didn't want to know unless she KNEW what it was, no "it looks like" etc, and she said for us it was 100% sure. She did say that if boy bits are seen then its definately a boy, whereas if there's no bits seen and a it's assumed it's a girl then it could be just a modest boy, IYSWIM!

A Mom at school was mis-told a girl last year just before I was pregnant, so unfortunately, it does happen.
