Return of warmer, dry weather with me:T, so took the chance to do as mentioned before and took out the old laurel bush that was in the garden when I arrived. Actually that was the only thing in the garden!
This has opened up about 3 sq/m of planting space, which in my small garden is worth having. It was also obvious how plants like the magnolia stellata had been trying to grow away from the laurel and were taking on a curve.
Still unsure if replacing with a small tree is the right idea, got a few months until it's bare-root season to decide, but I think I may just fill-in the space by extending the herbaceous border.
Also been to Dobbies and got some more bulbs to add to those from Aldi and Morrisons...0 -

Poor bimble. He couldn't help it. He didn't disgrace himself.
Anyway, someone benefitted.
Monday I plan to spend jam making,. Plums and what ever other plum like things they are. so today I'm going to nip out for sugar. : )

Is it rude to start man urging beds in the garden the gardener is working in? We were tidying up roses and pears yesterday, and the souls NEEdS love. Having weeded and turned it over a bit would be nice to mulch it today and forget about it till spring apart from weeding, because we've got so much else to do between now and then...
Would look great too!
But is that rude?0 -
Fired up by removing the laurel, just cleared a 3m raised bed which was choked with Spiraea douglasii which suckers horribly and was started to break-up the wall and creep into next door.
This has properly revealed a Leycesteria formosa (Himalayan Honeysuckle) which I'll certainly keep but it needs renovation pruning. Anyhow, after the root disturbance, given it a good soaking and some blood/fish/bone.
As this 'new' bed is sheltered and faces south west and it beside the conservatory, I think I'll make it a 'spring' garden.
I've now go so much brushwood and roots, I'm going too hire a skip on Monday (not a BH here in Scotland) to save many trips to the recycling centre and I've got plenty of other stuff to get rid of too.0 -

No, your gardener should understand it's your garden, and that in the course of managing it, you may take it upon yourself to do x or y, either as 'help' for them, or pleasure for you.
Which it is doesn't matter.
They are there to make the garden manageable, not to do it all for you.0
