IHS It is lovely to see all your hard work coming to fruition :D you have made your garden beautiful and it is a real treat to see the flowers blossoming. Do you get to spend much time out there relaxing?

Over the next couple of days I am going to have to work hard to get the garden up to scratch for our gathering. I was so proud of what I had achieved in the garden however when I showed it to others their reaction showed me that it clearly still needs a lot of work :o However it is much better than it was!

Rummer, ours just doesn't look its best and we have people coming. But, that's life.

For a garden usually at least two weeks behind we're ahead this year. I see autumn every where, our American pillar Rose, been and gone, our repeat flowers sulking. Because of the roses our garden is always going to peak early, but its really sulking ATM. Everything I cut back for second flowerings has second flowered. One of our buddleias is really almost over. Seems really, very early for that.

Fir bought a white salvia which smells like B.O. Its so awful smelling I could weep. I can smell it at least ten metres away too. Why do awful things smell strong?

I know that I have achieved a lot this year, and that there is still time to do so much more. My darling OH is impressed as is my DD and that is all that really matters as it is our space ;)

Lucielle hope you have a great canooing time. Pleased the MRI is done & hopefully the results will be really good.

Sorry about your leakages LIR - well not your's personally, but the house's.

Stonking heat & bitten silly with cleggs so am on the anti-histimine.

One of my buddliahs is almost gone over too LIR. I think it's the heat.

The place is like a jungle, so I tried cutting out some broom at the side of the track as it's taken over the place, but it was so hot I didn't get too much done.

Still trying to get a sheep shearer - it's always a worry.

Off to Brum today.:( Outlaws are here to guard the ranch. ;) I was going to do the guarding bit, but it's politic to attend the great removal, although there are plenty of strapping men to do the actual work. There will be no strapping men to help me here when we get back!:rotfl:

The builder chap finishes today for a bit. He has a posh table to make, which might be a more attractive job than roofing in this heat.;) We now have the whole garage/temporary kitchen, workroom tiled and possibly enough tiles left to do the second phase of roof work at the end of August. Unfortunately, the standard ridge tiles we had aren't a great fit, so we have a few weeks to source alternatives. Total spend so far £5k.... ridiculously cheap! :T

While a lot of garden stuff has gone over, I'd say we have plenty that will do a repeat later, and some that have yet to give their best. I wouldn't write the year off yet. Looking forward to August as a time to really get on top of everything. Maybe have a few days out too! :)

In the polytunnel, the peppers are doing wonderfully. The toms are so-so and I'm getting plenty of salad stuff despite the heat in there. Too many cucumbers, but being a vertical crop, they take up no great space. Can't seem to keep sparrows and robins out, but they don't seem to be doing any harm. I can exclude the butterflies, which is good for them too, as they often die in there. :(

Fertilizing lawns IHS? Doesn't compute. Try having a badger doing a diagonal walk across it as it checks out your hen house security every night. Nice, extra-green stripe! :rotfl:

Forgot to mention, we had fish & chips last night at a new location, in a churchyard at the end of a single track, no through road. It was incredibly peaceful, yet only a mile or two from civilization. We couldn't hear traffic, aircraft, dogs, or anything, except the swallows.

Came home and started watering in the dusk. Stood there thinking, "Well, this place can be very peaceful too, sometimes." :A

Then, right on cue, the drumming started. It was a samba band; part of the opening festivities for the Old Fair in the nearby town! Oh well....:rotfl:

Hmm, and it's Lapstock next weekend, Mid Devon's answer to Woodstock, Glasto etc. Usually hear that too!

I heard on the grapevine that mr twonk and a huge run in with the previous owners on the ranch ( there were two generations the parents he got on with, and after they passed away, and the place was left to the 2 boys this is when it started) according to the neighbours there was a court case about the tiny bit of land that mr twonk said he owned... and it got thrown out of court, costing mr twonk thousands, and made him look like a 'twonk' to the then neighbours..

anyway better get to work, and try and earn some pennies lol

CTC, haven't had time to think yet. Its dh's gig on Friday and I'm up to my nose trying to sort out my house to cater for friends staying over, help DH with some music stuff and cook stuff, plus deal with as little of the organising as possible.

On Sunday I rejoin as much of the normal world as I normally live in :)
