IHS - Hot here too. Lost my agarves a couple of Winters ago. Being in the shed in minus 20 odd didn't do them any good. I've not got any suviving house plants & some were over 30 years old.

Saw that Morrissons had vines with grapes on & figs too for £15 each. I didn't think that was bad as they were quite established.

Very midgied this evening. Shifted some internal scaffolding once I got home from work ready to do more insulating on the roof - for OH to do!

:hello:Morning all. I've been in lurk mode for a few days. :o

I've appreciated all your posts, especially the roses, the 'before & after' shots and other garden photos. Those ex-batts certainly look different, Better Days, and your garden's coming on a treat.

There 's been a lot going on here, though nothing major. We've got the structural engineer sorted, warned the architect he'll be drawing more plans and begun the task of clearing the garage out, ready for it to receive its new roof. It's a bit unclear what we'll do with our huge main freezer, but we do have the ability, if not the strength, to shift it down to the barn, if necessary.

There's always someone bowling googlies it seems, and this week we had a request from people we're friendly with in the barn complex, to host a transmitted broadband service relay for them. Apparently, we are the only property able to 'see' the transmitter, apart from next door, whose owners won't be likely to agree.

We wouldn't have a problem relaying a signal to these people, as it would be easy to get reimbursement for the leccy used, but looking at the broadband company's T&C, it seems they expect all users to relay, with the obvious implication that we could end up as sole gateway to any others down there as well, which would not be good. It looks like a wayleave with no benefits whatever, as the service is too expensive for us to use. :(

Yesterday, I finally tackled the job I'd been dreading, putting new blades on the Hayterette, after grinding off the old ones. It took a few hours, but the difference is very noticeable and it's cutting like a dream. :D

With the prevailing wind switching to a westerly flow, I think it's time to stoke up the bonfire today.Yesterday's scorcher wasn't enough to get me my first tomato in May :(, but I am at least set to get one the first week in June....

Good to hear how much fun you had, CTC and alfie.

Long time since we heard from Phoebe.

    Hi Dave :wave::wave::wave:
I was wondering why you were so quiet - but it sounds like you have been having fun with your new lawnmower. I do think a photo is in order as you seem so attached to it ;)

Well, I've had a stressful weekend. Our little black kitty vanished on Friday. Mr BD searched the road and the village, knocked on doors and put up posters. I rang round vets and rescues etc and wandered around shaking the tin of cat kibble and calling the cat like 'mad cat woman'. Up at 4.30 am Sat and Sun morning to see if he came home in the night.

I made up 40 flyers and Mr BD posted them round all our neighbours in this part of the village at lunch time. An hour later kitty marches in through the cat flap. :j:j:j We were soooo relieved. He seems none the worse for wear. If he was shut in somewhere (which seems likely) he is in a much better state than I would have been without food and water for two days.

My ebay karma has improved a bit - have won a kitchen sink and some taps this weekend.:D:D Not great bargains, but have saved us spending a lot more if we bought new, and decent quality too.

Been a glorious day - planted some geraniums in a tub and it was hot, hot, hot.

Dave, trying to understand the relay thing. Do you mean that if you relay for one person that obliges you to to relay for anyone else who would benefit from it too whether you want to or not?

And sorry if I've missed previous discussions - but what are you doing with your barn? Or is it a secret or undecided - apart from a new roof???

Happy to oblige. It doesn't look like a machine for eating 10" grass, but the same model, with various style tweaks, has been around since the 1970s.

The aluminium deck means no rust and the 8" wheels are ball bearing smooth, meaning it's easy to push. Pushing is better in confined spaces and it also means the 5hp engine can concentrate on cutting. Underneath, there's a big spinning plate with 4 swivelling knives that does the business. If a knife clouts something, it can rebound out of the way, saving other damage.

Old 'uns, like this one, are still very popular on the Bay.:D

Good news about your kitty. It happens. They get locked-in places, especially at weekends if people go away.

Ours did that, not having the magnetic collar that let the other cats she'd shacked-up with out of the cat flap. (I thought it was supposed to work the other way round!:rotfl:)

Oh my god, you took alf to Fair Fach? I have this image of her leaving in an ark full of animogs :rotfl:

Sorry I've been so absent. It's basically been me looking after the kids while OH slaves on the house alongside various trades or simply painting (there is so much to paint - every wall in the house, first with undercoat to seal plaster and then at least one coat). And we've had such a run of illness. The there have been animals to deal with. Also had a run of bad luck there. We lost all of the goslings hatched by the pair of Sebbies that Alf brought here. Some were trampled newly hatched or in the shell, another taken by predators (?crow, we have monster crows). I managed to rear one successfully in the incubator. Needless to say, next year, I will probably be taking any new hatchlings off this two. The gander adopted the incubated gosling immediately, so there should be no problem reintroducing them once they are a bit moer robust.

I lost my favourite bantam just after she hatched four chicks. Again my lack of experience. She clearly wasn't looking after herself and I now make sure that all broody hens are shoved off the nest twice daily and put in a pen on their own with food and water.

The Ixworths are doing great and OH is about to go on a first culling and dressing poultry course, so those Brahma eggs I hatched last year of which three were cockerels.... well, they are renamed Coq au Vin I, II & III!

Growing plants has not happened and I've had to satisfy myself with foraging in our bit of woodland to make wild garlic pesto and garlic butter. I dream of a polytunnel :)

Anyway, we are making good headway, barring a blip or two, which I won't bore you with the details.

Today we "celebrate" our two year anniversary of living in the caravan. There will not be a third!!!
