Mmmmm, and I got a huge bruise on the leg too.:( As usual, there were a few mega-logs, so feeling energetic, I had a bit of a log smashing session with the splitting axe, until one flew out and caught me on the shin. Forgot I'd only trainers on.... and thin trousers... ...at least it wasn't shorts!
It was a real alfie-type injury, and all self-inflicted. I'm getting some gaiters! :rotfl:

WELCOME TO MY WORLD.....
Your world hurts!:mad::(
Actually, that was an unfair comment I made. I have always been quite accident-prone.
My most famous one was when I was about 14. I really fancied my mate's sister, so I took my hands off the handlebars of my bike as we passed her, and waved....
....putting my fishing rod through the front spokes!
I last met her about 8 years ago while visiting a plant nursery. She still reminded me about it!:o

I may have found the roof tiles we need for our re-furb.....and they're free. :jThey're certainly the right brand & style, but the colour is something I'll have to check on tonight. They're still on a roof ATM, but not far away.....;)
Regarding the building/refurbishment, we've just about finished a completely new plan that I'm pleased with, mainly because I know it will be more affordable. This won't require any external building, other than getting rid of the flat roof at the front, which is still a big job from a structural POV.
Everything else will just be moving walls, replacing ceilings & woodwork, re-wiring and re-plumbing with proper central heating, new kitchen, new bathroom.....Hmmmm, that's still quite a bit!
But whatever's left in ££ will then be turned into a conservatory to replace the 'orrible leaky one we have now. Despite its awfulness we've come to love having it, and I never really wanted to build a kitchen in its space.
Luckily the flat roof removal is part of our existing planning permission, so we can do that and the rest stays 'live' for ever. So, if we ever come into money......:rotfl:
The rest of the PP is mostly irrelevant now, but it was a nice exercise in focusing us on what's really important.0 -

What are folks doing with the tulips that have 'gone over'. My garden is too small to look at dying leaves for weeks, so they'll need to come out.
Kind of reluctant to bin them, but would 'parking' them in compost-filled pots at the back of the border let them build energy to flower next year?0 -

YESthats what i do but i just put them in a deep big square tray [cat litter tray with holes]. then bring em in for winter, dry, and plant early spring in another place
been dry but tad chilly todayamazing how a bit of heat earlier makes us think this is cold whereas its warmer than what it was before heat......

Pretty warm here today. I could feel the heat bouncing off the road hedge bank on the top field. Tons of badger doings up there, but never a dead one on the road. Perhaps ours are all in league with the squirrels in the Tufty Club.
(Cue for all those under a certain age to scratch their heads!:rotfl:)
Well, the good news is that the free roof tiles are a good match, so we can have enough to do the gable we have to construct, and probably the garage roof too.:D:D
It's another bungalow refurb. A couple with more money than [STRIKE]sense[/STRIKE] us are building an upstairs on a place which looks remarkably like ours. The whole roof is coming off and they are going for a much steeper pitch.
They would also like to give away radiators, windows etc, so who knows? Theirs is the plan we had, when we'd been here the same length of time they've been there.0 -
Think that's what you call "A Result" there then Dave:beer:. Well worth having that is.
Darn all done in garden last couple of days, other than laying down some more weedproof membrane on weedy soil and wondering how easy or otherwise the dead weeds I am expecting will be to remove from my clay-ey soil once the membrane has "done its thing".
Also wondering how long it takes before these membranes have had the desired effect and all weeds underneath them are dead. Does anyone know how long I should expect it to take for the membrane to do its "work"?
Being thankful for yet another rainy day today for once. The reason being I was let down Again yesterday by my builder (on the current indoor job he is doing for me) and I went for a bit of a walk when it finally became clear I was having another "let down" and found him doing an outdoor job nearby that I thought he'd finished. My sense of humour hasn't surfaced enough yet to have a laugh at the memory of his face, which was full of mortification/guilt/wondering where he could go and hide himself that I'd caught him out for lying to me. What he'd told me as reason for let-down in no way coincided with the truth of the matter, which was "Its a nice sunny day, so I decided to let you down and go and get on with an outdoor job I m still doing". Am waiting to see if he positively slinks in the door guiltily this morning or no...
Am also wondering if he has any idea just how much possible future work off friends he has lost out on by telling that lie......Part of me is incredulous he'd put short-term gain (ie of getting a few hundred £s paid a few days sooner than would otherwise be the case) ahead of thousands of £s of work he must have guessed would have been the case quite likely if he hadn't told that lie - but I suppose he thought I wouldn't catch him at it..0 -
Life is too short to worry about builders telling a lie so he can juggle work.. if you don't like it, then get another builder...Work to live= not live to work0

True, it's very normal behaviour for 'one man band' outfits. My friend is having exactly the same problem with her landscaper. He is trying to keep a number of people happy simultaneously, which doesn't always work out, but then he doesn't want to turn work away.
Money, the bottom line is that your building work would barely have begun yet if you'd been using some of the people we want to use. The good 'uns are booked up 9months in advance.0
