CTC Hugs and be kind to yourself.

With respect to your bio father, allow what will to happen.

In my own case, having only seen him once in 25 years and that under protest, I was surprised to find that I felt pretty much nothing.

OK - I knew he was going and had refused to see him but the family members who insisted that I would regret my decision were wrong.

It maybe gave me the space to sort out my head as I was no longer having to deal with everyone else's take on things.

I chose not to go to the funeral and that was the right decision as well (there was too much going on between the two wives etc in which they would have tried to embroil me). I went to a place of reflection and said goodbye in my own time.

On the other hand one of the incidents during the event was out of Monty Python and it would have been fun to have seen it.

Just contacted a couple of builders about the garage roof, and a structural engineer about the flat roof on the house, so we are under way at last with the building.

The garage is quite a nice test for the two I've lined-up to quote so far. It's a small job by most standards, but whoever does it will have to be prepared to factor-in savings we can make. In this case it will be the roof tiles we've been gifted and probably disposal of half the waste, since that's wood.....and no wood leaves this site until it's been burned or re-used. ;)

I might be pushing it, but I shall ask if we can do the prep by getting the old roof off. Should be fun!

Oh, and we visited the kittens......:D

Seriously cute; going to be really easy to tell apart despite the similar colouring. I love the face markings.

    Excited about build dave.

Those kittens are going to be fun during it.

Pink whistley, we call her 'the foreman' because she tells everyone here what to do and that they missed bits.

The idea is to grow red climbing roses up it... And possible a clematis? We have Rosa The New Dawn in the front garden, which is a very very pale pink, ideally I'd like something similar but with deep red flowers, I prefer the smaller flowers of TND to the very big and blowsy flowers some roses have. Any suggestions?

The perfect rose to suggest to you occurred to me just a few minutes ago.

Its so obvious from what you wrote to suggest this one!

Yes, the markings have developed a bit since we agreed to have them, which is nice. :)

They belong to friends, who originally took 3 rescue cats with the hope of controlling the rodents on their smallholding. However, the rescues just upped and left one day, first settling 1/4 mile away at another friend's house and then moving on again to a farm owned by yet another friend, probably another 1/4 mile distant.

Perhaps they are really trying to return whence they came.:(

Anyway, three replacement young cats were acquired, and this time they stayed, but our friends weren't fast enough getting them spayed. Pumpkin, the Mum, had a not so secret rendezvous with a tom from down the lane....:o

Well, it's only the garage, but being joined to the house and fully serviced with water and leccy, we need it when the real fun starts. It's likely the boiler will go in there.

Early days, We need to meet a few of these builder guys and see how they come across. We know their work is OK, because we work backwards from seeing finished projects, but what they are like is important too.;)

DW saw a finished project today, done by someone very local. That was another one off the list! :rotfl:

EDIT: Almost forgot....DD1 + DH took possession of their first house up in Brum today. They have rather a lot to do! Sensibly, they've given themselves a month to move out of their rented house.

DD is manager of a large property owned by a charitable organisation, so unlike us, she has a long list of people who do 'jobs on the side.'

Some people fall on their feet! ;)

Wow LiR, that sounds like it might be perfect for us! :T I looked at stuff on David Austin and Crocus so far, the one I wanted said it turned brown if it was in full sun, and others didn't seem to climb high enuff - the arch is quite tall! Thank you so much! I'd still be very interested to see your climbers when they flower, if you have the energy required to take photos. Please don't make effort if you are unwell or don't feel up to it though. Hugs.

We're not in a rush to get anything planted, as the GrandTwins are still rather overactive in garden, and don't listen to any instructions as to "Don't walk on flower bed", "don't tread on the veg beds", "don't kick foot ball at the roses" etc etc etc! It's taken us 2 years to "plant" the arch, so if it takes us a while to plant it up it's not a problem... But will definitely be keeping your suggestion in mind. Thank you again!

    Morning all :wave::wave::wave:

Had a quick browse through your posts - sorry for your tough week CTC. Kits look lovewely Dave. Money - chickens will sell their little chicken souls for grape slices, and meal worms. Ours have a definite 'I've got a slice of grape' cluck which is quite high pitched and different from the normal run of the mill clucks.

Tiddling down with rain here in Suffolk, and chickens are looking very bedraggled. Got back last night from a weeks hols in Southwold. Had some lovely weather and some rain and thunderstorms. All in all not a bad week for May.

Property was in a glorious spot overlooking the sea and the town. Mr BD and I chilled out reading and lounging around - there was a pleasant decked area with a hedge to protect from the wind off the sea.

But unfortunately the owners thought nothing of turning up unannounced, letting themselves in with the key, arranging for deliveries etc. The last straw was when someone rocked up on Friday morning to meet up with the owner and measure up for blinds. I sent the poor chap off with a flea in his ear and rang the holiday company up yet again to express my dissatisfaction.

Back home the black tiled bathroom is no more and is nearly finished now. It looks lovely. Has taken nearly a month. Ensuite has had all the tiles removed and I do hope it doesn't take so long to finish as the bathroom. Some of the leylandii were taken down during the week we were away so we now have glimpses of the view they were hiding :D

Can't believe how much the garden has come on in the week we were away, the lupins look lovely and so far the slugs haven't found them.......
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
