I've just googled it, lir & it says picking the affected leaves off can help. Is that going to be possible or are there too many?? What a shame, I know you love that tree.

Don't rush to judgment on the injury, alfie. :naughty:

DD1 was in a collision a couple of years ago and didn't feel too bad to begin with, but she's been having physio on and off ever since. :(

Now I'm not saying this will happen to you, 'cos it probably won't, but DD is mighty pleased someone else is footing the bill!

DD2 and I were shunted from behind by a hit & run driver in 2005. Again, it was a couple of days before we felt the worst effects, but fortunately, they didn't last. That's the more usual experience. :)

It's good that you have it all logged at the hospital. ;)

Lir, I'm very sorry about your pear. I know how you feel because my quince has quince leaf spot, which is also supposedly incurable. We've had nothing from it since 2009. :(:(:(

Out today, celebrating a family birthday. Drove over the Somerset Levels and couldn't see any obvious effects on the flora. Don't recall ever seeing so much hawthorn blossom, and the buttercups in the fields were a picture. Wouldn't want that many in our fields!!!:rotfl:

Oh, I do 'get' that, especially after all the recent hassle you've had, but you've logged it anyway. Well done for success with Blooming Telecoms! :T

Regarding hassle, DD1 and her DH both work with difficult teenagers for a living, so I think anything short of that is pure recreation! :rotfl:

    morning all,

well I am absolutely knackered... from the show at the weekend... AND we were next to FK.... we managed to walk around a lot more this year again ( not to together though... one manned the stand while the other one wondered) bought some bits and pieces, but didn't spend a lot... which over the 4 years we have been doing the show, we have noticed people's spending a lot less, before you could see people walking back to their cars with loads of bags, now the ones that are carrying a bag of bought items, its only one or two..

When we got back hubby went straight up to check on the pigs as eldest was seeing to them.. and some interfering person.. took one of the buckets... got water from the stream and put it in one of the pigs feed trough, and also put grass in there!!!

Nothing lives in the stream.. and I dread to think of the state of the water... plus prob the grass is from where everyone lets their dog wee!!!!

Hubby has put a hand written sign up on the gate, saying do not feed or water the pigs.... as they have automatic drinkers and are on a specific food.... Plus where they got the bucket from, put a rope across with a sign no entry..

This is def not Mr Git..... we do have our suspects....

Even if we stayed up there every night.. we cant be there during the day, as we need to work... The next step might be security cameras..

    CTC,

IMO you need to have your best smiles on your faces at all times there. It could be possible mr git's comments about welfare might be getting believed by some people, and nothing counters that like 'like ability' combined with the conditions and appearance of your pigs. We've seen pictures of conditions of husbandry and their condition, so bizarrely, as it has no impact.

I'd seriously consider a 'neighbours party' this summer. Inviting people to meet the pigs, have a BBQ sausage in a roll ( or what ever bits of pork you are finding it harder to offload, marinaded and cooked to its best). Let peoe come, ask questions, be tempted by the beautiful meat and keep grins plastered to your faces and explain your motivations to small hold.

Things like the importance of knowing what they eat etc can be discussed, and the problems you've had with security, and how ultimately its a problem for the community. Get your neighbours working on your side...they CAN be there day times often, and will be like guard dogs given a chance, ;)

You are right LIR, but it is sooo hard to keep a smile on your face, when you know these people talk to you one minute, and back stab you the next..

I honestly think they got this mental picture that pigs are just eating machines, and got to eat all day, but in reality once they hit a certain age.. they don't eat loads, ( they do eat a lot, but not loads) and they sleep a lot, and they are creatures of habbit...

Will def contact to the sign writer guy, and get two lots of signs done, one about the dog on leads, and the other about not feeding/watering the pigs...

another cuppa is in order me thinks...lol..

Do your pigs Ever play with balls or any other type of enrichment? That might show people there is some concern to their 'higher needs'.

They have 3 footballs in there, and they have never been interested... when we are there, we are always back and fore in their piggy paddocks, rubbing then, scratching then etc.. so there is plenty of interaction.

Don't get me wrong they do have a run around ( which does look rather clumbersome due to their size and weight) .

We had the fencer there last week, and in the next few weeks we are getting the next phase of fencing/paddocks done, but this time we are doing a double fence, a fence right on our boundary with the footpath, and then a track big enough for a car/trailer, an then the piggy paddocks...

We did want to move our big pigs up the furthest piggy pen, and put mum and piglets out in that run for a few weeks..which would do them the world of good, but I am so bloody scared..
