I've just had another blood test this morning, so that ensured a reasonably early start.
All the spraying is done and the majority of the grass has been cut, so the world is my lobster. :j
I will sort out your stuff now, Rummer.;)

Who was it that reminded me of the existence of my half moon tool?? I now have lawn with edges that look like a donkey's hind leg!! :rotfl:
Very, very warm here. The car says 24 degrees although it has been sitting (do cars sit??) directly in the sun. My face is the colour of lir's rose after working in the garden all morning
Rummer, hope all is ok with you. Dave, hope your blood test result comes back clear.
Have a lovely weekend everyone'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -

Ah that was LIR who seems to be able to use hers correctly. I am however like you and I now have a massively squint lawn :rotfl: my OH has been told to reins me of my inability next year when I think it is good idea to edge the lawn.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Sorry!
Do you put a string up to keep your straight? It does help. Also , I only go half the length of the spade wider each 'dig'. I think that keeps me straight, because I'm half in the hole just done, if that makes any sense.
No idea what correct technique is!0 -
Mr Dog's son has now officially lost the job of cutting our road hedge, after I spoke with someone else about having it done in late August. I explained Mr Dog junior had been sending someone else, who wasn't exactly the sharpest tool in the box, rather than turn up himself and offend his Dad.
"Well, t'wudden tek much t'do that!" was the reply. :rotfl:
I've been down at the Dog End this morning, filling the comfrey barrel with water before the field grows too long for me to reach there with a wheelbarrow.
A quick glance at the hedge shows no more small trees have been pulled out and the brambles are doing a good cover-up job, so hopefully that has become 'out of sight, out of mind.'
The dogs are on their own and being pretty quiet today, as it's too hot to make lots of noise. Besides, now we have leaves on the trees, so it doesn't carry so far.
EDIT: Just heard we are having a few legbar eggs to stick under Lucy, our broody. Not sure if we have to give the chicks back!0 -
Anyone know about acers?
I rather foolishly planted two last year in wet clay soil and where they only get the rising sun - bad move.
One dropped its leaves early last year but is OK so far. Now the other one is looking poorly with leaves drooping and curling. Not sure if the heavy rain over the last few weeks has 'drowned' the roots or it's maybe got Verticillium.
TBH, I think acers may not be viable in my garden.0 -

Fussy Japanese acers like part shade and that elusive moist, but well-drained, humus-rich soil.
We had one in our old garden which was on clay. It hung on for quite a few years before expiring.
We have some tough-as-old -boots field maples in our new copse here, but also some acer davidii, which I grew from seed. The latter are very variable in habit and leaf colour, some being floppy and almost impossible top grow into a normal tree shape.
We get to keep the legbars, but there are only 3 eggs anyway. They could hatch as early as Monday. Apparently, they are auto-sexing, which is useful.0 -

Are Japanese Acers the delicate, feathery plants?? They're beautiful if it's the plant I'm thinking about. Could you dig them up & put them in big pots using Dave's recommended soil??'A watched potato will never chit'...0 -
Tired.:(
Had an email late yesterday from the person who Freecycled the printer, asking if it was working, as it might not be! She'd had problems and left it lying about for a few years... Whaaat? Why tell me this now?
BUT....If it was dead, she had another, newer one I could have..... though she'd give it to someone else if I didn't let her know quickly....
So, spent a couple of hours last night trying to get the thing running. Printed a test page OK after an hour or so, but couldn't seem to load/find the driver software. Gave up and went to bed, disgruntled.:wall:By then it was about 2am.
Up very early, as we moved all the hens to the other shed in the dark last night (!) They were OK. Just very puzzled! :rotfl:
Thought about the printer again, and being awake, realised my security software had been preventing the installation last night....:doh:It works in the background and I forget it.
Sorted out printer, so it goes, but somehow I still don't feel that good about it! :rotfl:0
