  • And a dreary drizzly morning here too! Won't be doing much outside today.

Not to worry, got a long list of overdue things to do in Swansea so will pop in today, maybe call in the garden centre for a cuppa and a mooch, and hit the gardening jobs tomorrow.

Rummer, I think I mentioned the real seed company before, they only sell seeds of plants that will come true when you save seed for the following year. In fact they send instructions for seed saving and actively encourage you to do so. They have a lot of interesting varieties too, things which crop early in our climate etc. However I've noticed they weren't taking orders just ATM til they clear a back log :(

I have a really big raised bed to fill, did start last summer but not finished, and desperate for some growing space. I wonder if I can use lots of muck to go in the bottom, perhaps add some straw, then save my mound of 'topsoil' for the final layer...

I have had to separate the garden in two as my dogs love nothing better than jumping into the smaller raised beds and digging - one of the beds is a big circular one (a direct copy of one I saw at river cottage, made out of two curved sheets of corrugated tin I cover pig arks with) and the puppy goes mental running round and round inside...not good last year when all the peas got dug up!!!

I've also noticed lots of shrubby things in pots have been chewed so they are now safely out of the way and showing signs of life.

Saw a couple of gorgeous magnolias and camellias in full flower yesterday, spring is definitely in the air!

:jA local person with an impressive garden has just asked me to look in on it while they're away.....

...A bit like asking the poacher to look after the pheasants, but I could hardly say no, could I? :D

I wonder if your pockets will suddenly fill??

CTC I am too curious now! Did you get the PM I sent you?

Ferret I have used seeds from the real seed company before however I have never managed to seed save :o Your raised bed sounds interesting, do you have pics? I love the look of these raised beds however they would be unlikely to work here.

Pouring with rain again today :(

Maggie - hope you are feeling a bit better today and your battery is re-charging. I made the mistake of trying to pull some weeds from the drive a few days ago and am still worn out as a result. Dave has kindly given me some tips on winning the weed battle.

Rummer - I love The Walking Dead as well. Just finished watching S4 on Couch Tuner. I would be pants too if there was a zombie apoloypse - but at least we would know all about it after watching 4 series of TWD. I have got the earlier series on my lappy - ahem :o which I have revisted when confined to bed and want some escapism.

CTC fingers crossed for you ;)

On the plus side it's dry and mild here - about 16 degrees and the painter is making good progress on the outside of the house. On the minus side - something has scoffed my peas which were just germinating in the shed.:(:(:( Do you think mice are the likely culprit?
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Zombie films/shows are one of my guilty pleasures ;) I have already planned where I would go if there was a big disaster of similar proportions :rotfl:

Sounds as if it may be mice that have got to your peas :(

Oh do share - would it be a campsite (Centreparks maybe) a farm, a prison or a railway station :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Think you are right about the mice.:(

I now start all mine indoors because the losses were huge. They go out as soon as the first leaf opens (out of mice reach).

Had some sitting sulking for over a week now with virtually no growth despite being in a south facing window. Grey, grey, grey here.

It has to be an island, that way you can clear all the zombies and they will not be able to cross the water to get to you! Then you have space to establish areas for growing crops and can safely raise animals. Getting there will be the tricky bit ;)

Yep it flipping horrible drizzle rain, and I am flipping soaked right through..

went to farm supply place to buy 3 gates, will need to go back with big van and buy a 11ft gate as well..

so we have been fixing the 3 gates inside the brick building, which my parents have bought the roofing sheets for, so hubby has just picked the big van up to go and collect them.. so as soon as he comes back ( a few hours) it will be straight back up the ranch.. to clean up the 4x2's of the old nails etc( salvaged the good wood from the house) to put on top of the building to take the roofing sheets..

so then at least one part of the building will be water tight...

ready for ???????? we are really fighting with time here lol..

I am not going to say anything yet , not to jinx ourselves...
