    In a word, no.

Barn conversions own the drive, but the council will not venture onto private land, so . :)

Shows how arbitrary it is....they turn in my drive way....that's private land! My guess is its not a case of private land really so much as effort to reverse down the drive? Not your problem anyway. Sorry, bad suggestion!

Must make it hard for holidays or unconventional working patterns and would rule it out for par time people or those whose jobs take them away a lot to live there. Or the elderly or disabled. Really short sighted of the council.

Doesn't rule it out for all of those, but makes it hard, especially as many of the residents don't get on and management is so poor.

When we looked into the matter, it was discovered that council dustcarts had been going onto other private roads, including one serving a local district councillor. ;)

However we were told firmly that these existing arrangements were irrelevant to our situation. :(

Recently, a letter came, stating that henceforth, any previous arrangement for council lorries to pick up from private roadways etc was at an end. A mutually agreed pick-up from the public roadway would be arranged. If we already had one, we could ignore the notice.

It's to do with insurance, apparently.

We lived in one house on a sheep farm in Cambs down a mile long private lane. Only 3 properties but the bin men did collect. Whether or not they do now is a different matter. We sold that property just before the F&M outbreak, so the timing was very lucky for us as we wouldn't have been able to move off the property.

Otherwise we have always been in properties close to a public road. The bin men even collect and move the wheelie bins back to the storage area if there is a disabled person who is unable to do so. I do like wheelie bins, there was so much fuss about the cost when they were bought in but they are much better than the plastic sacks we had in Cambs. No rubbish strewn down the road - apart from when the wind blows the bins over :o:o

LIR your plum blossom sounds divine. :D

our council are talking about doing away with the wheelie bins, and going back to black bags for the general waste... and have only either 1 or 2 bags of general collected every other week...

so the rats, foxes, dogs etc will be happy...

Our bin lorry is one man operated. Very efficient, but no frills.

Rubbish still here and it's nearly 9am. Normally he arrives just before 7am. :(

Still, it's a lovely morning. Horse woman has offered a few barrow loads of her best manure, so I shall put those in the next deep bed and stick a couple of courgettes in it (in the polytunnel! :D)

    Then, more trees to plant....:o

I rang the nursery yesterday and my order should be here Friday. I told them to forget a couple of species they were dithering about. That means I'm still going to get quite a lot though.....and late! :(

Absolutely lovely day here - sunny and warm. I may even be able to get out of my thermal underwear if I manage to warm my bones sufficiently. Hope Rumlet is getting some rays so early on in his first year Rummer.

We were going to go to the Plumb place and sort out bathroom fittings etc but it is far too nice a day to spend anytime looking at taps etc! So going to potter in the garden with my seeds and seedlings. Rummer - mine go leggy on the windowsill too however much sun they have. I just plant them a bit deeper when I pot them on - doesn't seem to do any harm ;)

BD It is lashing with rain here today so rumlet is having another indoors day today. We are waiting for the new [STRIKE]costly[/STRIKE] fridge freezer arriving so taking the time for cuddles, smile practice and loads of eating :D

I have ordered the Square Meter gardening book from the library and it is waiting for me as we speak so I am going to use that to help me plan the space we have to get the best out of it. If the book is any good it may warrant a purchase ;)

More of the seedlings are up which always warms my heart :D I love the window ledges being packed with seed trays and looking to see what has popped up each morning and evening. The next thing to think about is flowers, although I am running out of places to put things. Hopefully we will finally find somewhere to get panels for the greenhouse.

I'm not sure who this was meant for???? :o

As I've said, our 'blue' egg layers lay khaki and greenish eggs, but although they are consistent and some are nice, the overall quality isn't as good as we're used to. :( I can't recommend them.

The Marans lay dark eggs, but I have never seen Marvin 'on' one of those.....he seems to go for the good-looking Fentons or Light Sussex. The Vorwerks fight back! :rotfl:
