Absolutely piddling down here...
really wanted to do some bits on the land up the ranch, now the nights are lighter...
never mind... a nice soak in the bath and a mooch around the old internet me thinks..
BD.. do you have that link again regarding putting an app on the notepad, so I can download books etc....thanksWork to live= not live to work0 -
I think I am going to start looking for shop keepers doorbells that could work on out door gates and have different tones. Dogs driving me potty today. We cannot hear front door from the cheese room so they have decided to be hyper alert instead. I think the resolve is a clear 'some one is at x gate' is the way forward.0

CTC - it's been a while since we discussed it but do you mean the kindle app for android?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.amazon.kindle
LIR Been a barky day here too. Old dog beside herself barking today as chap is here painting the outside of the house (don't trust Mr BD up a ladder!)
Sorry IHS don't know much about Canna's but you may get away with it as long as you keep a close eye on the weather forecasts and the pot is out of the wind (well if its anything like the bloomin' north easterlies we get here;))
Dave - I've got a reminder up on my google calender as I can never remember which day and which week is which bin. And two weeks is a long while to wait with a full bin if we get it wrong. Do you have wheelie bins?
Forgot to tell you - last week Mr BD came home and announced - ''don't say I never buy you anything''. Then he waved a tin of beans in front of me. I was going to have beans the previous evening but there weren't any. Didn't have the heart to point out we were also out of Galaxy chocolate - and given the choice between the two.......It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Dogs down the road were going too. It doesn't bother me, they are a lot further away than mr dog from dave but they are kennel dogs, to the south, from where or prevailing wind comes from, I hear them, though its not offensively loud. I was just very aware of it today, I think it made mine jumpy.
Mine don't bark back, but it does make them more alert to stuff going on here, and barrier at people passing by I think. The bin men certainly got an earful.0 -
It was a dull day today so Rumlet and I snuggled up indoors as planned
I have been watering my seedlings and quite a few have come up although they are quite leggy
They are in the sunniest place in the house however it doesn't seem to be enough.
I have been thinking a lot again about an allotment and I think when the garden is sorted here I am going to put my name back on the list again as I really want the space to grow things like shallots, potatoes and carrots etc however they would take up too much space in our garden to be worthwhile.
Now I need to prove to myself and my OH that I can keep on top of things here :rotfl:Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
The only thing I know about cannas in Scotland is that song, "Oh ye canna push yer granny off a bus....!"
My cannas have spent the entire winter unprotected in a pot in the polytunnel and they appear fine, so I'd reckon a few layers of fleece would be fine, even in Glasgow. I bunch my fleece into more layers if it's really cold.
Mr Dogs duo were at it till he came home at 2pm, so I put that on my chart. Things haven't been too bad lately so I'm not reacting, but I have plans if he goes back to his old ways.
Managed to change the oil in the mower and cut one lawn before it rained. Lots of small jobs done, but cruising a bit.
I'm going for early June tomatoes again....!
Edit, sorry I missed your question Better Days. No one here will use wheelie bins, because apart from next door and our good selves, everyone is 100m + from the pick up point. They like to bring everything up in cars.
I use a wheelbarrow sometimes, but we make so little rubbish I usually just carry our one bag. :A0 -
I just did a quick garden tour. Almost everything is trying now. Blossom or blossom bid on all fruit trees and the third hop FINALLY popped a leaf today. Its the Saaz. Its exciting to have plants I know nothing about. Of the two further ahead ones ( only just, its like discussing the intellect of tiny babies
) the cascade is pleasingly formed to me over the fuggle.
Of the pears, humbug is streets ahead, or maybe simply heaviest in blossom. Its got so much its hard to imagine. Like a very mature tree. It hasn't tried to bear fruit yet so maybe this year we'll get a few stripey pears, all the better for not having pushed itself as too young'un.
One of the useless old plums has bowed over the gate making a beautiful arch of blossom in to the back garden. We'll feel like we are at a wedding when the blossom falls soon.0 -

We /I. take our rubbish from house to barn daily. Then the wheelie out on the day. Today it struck me I should move the wheeling back thirty metres which would make it a longer put out, but a neater put. Away.
Could a wheelie station be made at the pick up point so at least the rubbish was in bins not spread out over your place?0 -

In a word, no.
Barn conversions own the drive, but the council will not venture onto private land, so the only place they'll collect from is the entrance splay, which is public. We own one wall of the entrance splay and horse woman owns t'other. Our wall gets the bags against it because of the dustcart's direction of travel.
All that's fine until someone puts a bag there two days early. If they do, I simply return it to the drive. After all, I don't know whose it is. This makes a couple of the residents wild, because they know the culprit won't come back for it.
Suddenly, it's their problem.0
