A hard day here today, not helped by pouring rain and freezing cold windsTaking responsibility one penny at a time!0

Frustrating for you phoebe. I remember going to see Dad on his 'off' days and it was very hard work, even though he was conscious. I recall deciding to see how long it would take for him to initiate a bit of conversation if I just sat quiet for a while.....and he didn't!
Frustrating here too, as it's been quite decent most of the time and we've just been making rooms ready for our 'children,' who are due to arrive from separate directions at any second. Oh, and of course there was the fresh food to buy that I couldn't buy on Monday....:(
So, no tree planting, weeding, or anything vaguely interesting going on here.......:o Lots of decent cloudbursts last night and intermittently today, which [STRIKE]we[/STRIKE] the trees need, however.
Had the results for yesterday's blood test, which only hint at a kidney problem, so I get another next week, when I should also know more about the ultrasound scan. Must admit I am rather impressed with the care I've had so far.0 -
luceille yes... if you pm me your details I can post one off to you on Monday..
weather is raining and quite windy..
been doing some meal planning and meal pricing last night and this morning...need to really buckle our belts this year....
walked over to the supermarket at the end of our road.. and asked about why they don't have the big value 1.5kg bags of carrots in, and they mentioned that they are expecting veg to rocket in price due to the floods... Think this might also be an excuse to inflate prices too..
He also mentioned they are limited to what lines they can carry as they are only a small store, and they have been refused to have the store extended....... lol.....Work to live= not live to work0 -
CTC finally sent some info to you, let me know what you think
I would really like some dry weather so that I can get out and into the garden! If my darling boy will ever nap then I may get some more seeds planted.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
Panto photos have just reached me. I'll have a look later & maybe post a few. How did your DH's panto go, Better Days?
Ours raised £1700, a new record.
Sheerluck Holmes went well thank you, sold out every night so hopefully made a profit, though not £1,700 - a very impressive amount.
Hope all goes well next week with your blood test and scan results. Sounds as if the pain has settled down which is reassuring.
Had a 'new patient' check with the nurse yesterday, what a waste of time. I've got to go back and see a doctor anyway before they will let me have my repeat meds. All the nurse did was take my blood pressure which the GP could have done. BP quite low at 90/60, some symptoms at this level, but better than high BP.
The set up at reception was like a 1970's sit com with the receptionist having a little sliding window which was closed unless she was speaking to a patient. There was also that dreadful 'lift music' playing and carpet fitted partly up the wall :rotfl::rotfl:
phoebe1989seb great your Dad has stablised, hope the improvement continues and he remains comfortable.
You are so right regarding sheds, this house came with a big, if somewhat tatty, shed, and now the chickens have moved out I have managed to fill it up with flower pots etc in double quick time.;)
Rather chilly here today, some sun but the wind very cold. Hens seem to be happy, most days now four egg days. Have been putting anti-peck spray on the hen with the bald undercarriage, and it seems to be working, some feathers are just starting to poke through. I let them have the run of the whole garden this afternoon as they have eaten all the grass in their run. I called them over for some treats and it is nice to be so popular! Clucks of delight, flapping of wings, little legs rushing along, all trying to get to the treats first.:D:D:DIt is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

BD - sorry to hear your check in with the nurse was a waste of time - how blooming annoying
Sounds as though (were it a house) the surgery would be a prime candidate for the *have a look at this * thread though, lol! At least Mr BD's panto was a huge success and like Dave's obviously raised some welcome funds for a good cause
Dave - fingers crossed for your blood test and scan results next week
It turned to torrential rain here late afternoon and has been bucketing down ever since.....typical that the good(ish) weather departs and the rain returns as soon as our new windows are due to be installedMortgage-free for fourteen years!

Glad the panto went well, BD. Some of the money raised at our Pantos comes from the very excellent Interval catering, as we have alcohol, wine, ice cream etc and there's also the inevitable raffle!
How annoying for you to have a wasted trip, if you must go back to see a Dr anyway. Unlike most things around here, our Health centre is up-to-date and appears very efficient, as is the outpatient management system, which aims to give people a choice of hospital.
Perhaps not all the locals like the modern place, with its touch-screen check-in and interactive displays. There are still receptionists, who are regularly grumbled-at by those who don't 'get' the technology.
Not for the first time I heard, "Tis daft, why can't I just zay I'm yer?" :rotfl:0 -
I can sympathise with those locals on that one Dave. I swopped surgery latterly back in Home Area and it was touchscreen and go into little room and take your own blood pressure if you want etc etc.
Hmm....but then I tend to be of the "Tis daft, why cant I just zay I'm yur" School of Thought in that respect. Back to that now here..
I have had to hunt around a bit though for a modern style dentist, as I much prefer my dentist surgeries being "bang up to date".
...and the gardening question of the week is whether I should go in for having an allotment or no. I have the chance of one here if I want and still pondering that a bit, as I will have a fair bit of space here once I rip up as much paving/driveway as possible.
Wondering what special "care and attention", if any, I should give to that poor neglected soil down underneath said paving etc, once I rip it up. Turns out I can go "ripping away" merrily, as it will cost me a lot less than I thought to do so. Any thoughts on that "nourishment of the neglected" scenario in order to ensure it's in fine growing fettle?0 -
Well, money , you've already told us the back garden is a bit of a wet clay nightmare, so I wouldn't hold out too much hope for there being anything special under the driveway.
Such places are usually where builders hide their rubble and broken bricks etc, so I'd factor in a few skip loads of top soil (from a reputable source, not some chap one of your builders knows!)
Personally, I wouldn't take on an allotment till the garden is sorted. I've had one and know, it's amazing how that short walk somehow reduces the times one actually visits!0 -

Phoebe - funnily enough the 'Have a look at this thread' was on my mind too when I was sitting waiting (it was the carpet partly up the wall that did it!). Did consider taking a surreptitious photo on my phone but it wouldn't have been fair.
I think what irritated me most about the wasted visit is that surgeries have signs up about wasted HCP time through missed appointments but they are more than happy to waste my time and petrol (and Mr BD's time as he has to ferry me there and back). The nurse was so blase (MSE doesn't do accents from the French!) about the whole thing - is it a problem to come back she asked. I explained that the light and the noise while waiting are a problem (got a splitting headache in 5 mins), the visit exhausts me, it has to be tied in with Mr BD's work times and I don't want to catch anything whilst waiting which will knock me back for weeks.
I filled in a lengthy questionnaire when I registered with medical history and attached a copy of my repeat prescription printout from the previous surgery. She started by asking me about my medical history and meds - agghhhh. I couldn't remember much and asked her - haven't you got a copy of my questionnaire? Ah yes she said and called it up on the screen - give me strength. She asked me my weight and height but didn't actually measure (bad practice in my view). So overall not impressed.
Rant over :mad::mad::mad:
Dave the surgery did have a touchscreen, but I think the receptionist behind the sliding glass window was for the "Tis daft, why can't I just zay I'm yer?" segment of the patient population. There were also two sliding glass windows for prescriptions - one for new prescriptions and one for repeat prescriptions. Goodness knows why. And do I go to the 'new prescriptions' window as it will be the first time I have been prescribed at this surgery or the 'repeat prescriptions' as I have been on the meds for years???
Lovely and sunny here this morning, although chilly again. Looks like we have had a fair bit of rain overnight.
Rummer - did you get started on your herb seeds? It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
