phoebe1989seb yesterday was my first trip to Lidl as we now live much nearer. But I think we will be going back - I think we could save quite a bit on things like kitchen roll, dishwasher tabs.

There is a little market on at the Village Hall this morning, I'm hoping Mr BD will be home in time so we can pop along for the last half an hour.

The problem is that there's no one supermarket that does everything well at a decent price. Lidl is good with some things, especially non-food offers, but weak in many areas. (But where else can you get 10 packets of veg/herb seeds for £2? :j) S'burys and Morrisons both have their strengths, but again, there's one or two things we like from each, which means I end up going to both! :D

I can do Lidl, Morrisons, Sainsburys and Mole Valley Farmers all in one round trip, but it's 60 miles. However, putting that in context; to do any one of them is 40miles or so. That's country living! :o

Little markets are great for jams, pickles, home made pies etc. :)

well I just done a big long stonking post, and the computer decided to go awol..... aghhhhhh.

Davesnave... not nice.... lets hope the Dr can do something/refer you quickly, Hows Mrs Davesanave??

Didn't manage to sow anything yesterday... went to maplins, then decided to go and price things up for the ranch... OMG.... the price on things... I kept on thinking of the prices we paid here 20 odd years ago...

SOOOOOO.... we have decided... now that that side of the house is near enough ready to be 'put back' meaning all the stone work has been done etc... we are going to sort the stone work out on the other half... which is the nightmare part... I think TBTH .. I have been putting it off, as I know it is going to eat money... and is possibly going to be seriously major work...

so maybe the july moving in is ment to be NEXT YEAR July...lol...

Disappointed yes.... BUT in reality.... it is the best way...

at least with the summer coming, hopefully we will be able to cut our food bill right back with growing loads.....and prep our trees/wood etc

    Davesnave...Hows Mrs Davesanave??

She's good now, thanks. :A Took the bug that I had during the Panto* to a whole new level though.....

Hopefully, we are both off out now, planting trees. :j:j

*While I think of it, no official Panto pictures have reached me yet. The ones which made it to the local rag were re-sized so drastically, they may as well not have bothered! :(

CTC any joy with the rhubarb?

DS1 spent most of Thursday afternoon in casualty, he only went and drilled his finger. Luckily he's missed the bone but has to keep it dry. He starts night lambing tonight. The only silver lining is its his left hand.

He fetched his dog home last night (normally she lives on the farm). Looks like we'll be hearing the sound of puppy paws and veery soon. He didn't think she'd been caught. Great! Knackered finger and no dog for lambing. I'll let him sort it out.

will the puppies be pure sheepdog pups?

My old clump of rhubarb had about 20 odd side shoots etc... so I have potted them all up.. and see what happens... will plant the strongest one/s up on the ranch.. and put some into the farm auction, and see what thy bring, and maybe keep some in pots for next year..

I am going through my seeds, and TBH I haven't got the main veg I wanted to sow....so think I should make a list lol

I've forgotten who was asking about rhubarb now, but we have 'Timperley Early,' which has an AGM from the RHS. People seem to like it OK.

Those strawberries are a well tried and tested variety, CTC. Good buy! :T

We've put in around 18 trees so far. The problem is, we have to dig them up first, and some have settled-in very nicely! Still, it should look good in a month or so when they all start to grow away. :D

I mis-counted the trees. :o We've only planted 21 all day, but it's a fair effort. Put it another way: I don't think we'll manage more than a dozen tomorrow! :rotfl:

Meanwhile, there's no word of my order for more trees. They said everything was in stock, but I bet they hold back most of them till November. :( We can leave gaps for certain trees I suppose.

Believe it or not, I had to water all the plants outdoors in pots today. The stream is just a trickle, and already the 10" of mud in the chicken run gateway is just a bad dream. Can't you just tell the fishing season has arrived!
