Not healthy IMO.
Looks like a long cool spring on long range forecasts, like last year. Grim, slow start for the garden.
Not much better here; perhaps five in total.
2010 was two full months @ minus 11 daytime and -19 night time and then a whole month of the same at the end of the year.
Really worried about vernalisation of fruit trees and bushes.
Everything is just so wet; we are on sandstone and the guy next door who is a big digger has standing water between his beds.
And desparately need a bonfire to clear pruning etc and struggling not to annoy neighbours. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
On a minor note, the guy in the PO had a laugh. Last time that padded envelope was used was 1998!If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Yep, most of my roses haven't defoliated,I have had the occasional weak rose all the way through (which I know I should have pruned but don't have the heart to) . Blackspot lurking in places.
Grass growth lower, interesting given mild temps, certainly in growth ranges, Root contraction combined with washout of nutrients do you think? (Terrible for garden, but thrilling for me with the horses!)0 -

but......
Anyone being brave enough or any direct sowings? I'm not veg planing, but I have some nasturtiums and marigolds I'd like to get sown in situ ASAP. Looks on long range forecasts like cold risks right up to end of month but nothing below zero......
I have put pots of some seeds outside, like shrubs and hardy perennials, but no annuals. Things like calendula just spring up on their own here.0 -
Maybe I'll wait a bit.
When I was out the gritter passed me.......0 -

another sleepless night...no wonder I am walking round like a zombie.... if this carries on, think I might try those nitol things...
There is a small farm auction we used to go to, haven't been for a long while now since its moved( moved again in the last month or so) so found out where it is, so going today, to catch up with old friends and see what crap I can buy....Hopefully we can get back in the routine of going again.... as TBH even if we don't buy anything its a good few hours out, catching up with people...and finding out the gossip lol...
No snow for us this morning, cold though....Work to live= not live to work0 -
Yep.....
Frost this morning!
Day alright though, Hunt are parking in my drive this morning (keeps them sweet to me rest of the year) so birds staying in today.0 -
Morning!
What a busy week...hubby is home on leave so spent days getting the house clean and tidy, I live like I did when I was a student while I'm on my own. Then his first day back was spent mostly in bed, snoozing, watching telly and drinking tea, him getting over jet lag and general knackeredness, and me totally exhausted too although I still did the animal related jobs. I hate wasting a dry day being indoors but I must have needed it, we're both feeling a lot better.
Alfie have you got gas back yet? On the coldest night we've had in ages, typical!!!
CTC what's the auction like? We need some bits and pieces like troughs and hay racks, is that the kind of thing you get there? Or just tat!!! I don't know where it is, probably just as well or we'd be there buying stuff we don't need. Nice to have a day out, enjoy it! Are you going to the pig sale Friday? We don't need any more but be useful to see what's about, prices etc in case I need to buy any in...
Finally made a decision on the wood burner, couldn't find a suitable antique one so we have bought the same one as we have in the other downstairs fireplace, an aga little wenlock. We'll be fitting it ourselves to see if it needs a liner etc, hope it works, looking forward to being warmer too.
Now we just have to decide on tiles to go round the fireplace, again hoping to find antique/reclaimed but it's hard to find exactly what you need and like and on budget...
Well I'm going to spend the day doing outdoors jobs as tmrw looks like vile weather...plenty of mucking out to do and a catch up on general tidying. Better get the little trailer emptied ready for Monday, I'm taking a piggy to the abattoir and it's currently got a half tonne bag of pig food in it.
Think I'll have another cuppa and plan my strategy!0
