I haven't bought duct either. When I put the leccy in the polytunnel I used old drainpipe that I 'd dug up around the place, liberally covered with that yellow & black tape that says something like "Danger, Leccy Below!"

It was an armoured cable anyway, big enough to power the village, but beggars can't be choosers. :o

Openreach's cable to Mr Dog still just runs down the stream bed, unprotected.

On the subject of infected computers, one of our close friends received an email today from someone she knew, clicked a link in it without thinking, and whatever it was then disabled her 'puter. It then started sending messages to everyone in her adddress book, including me. :(

I didn't click the link in the message, but others did before I could send a warning out. They'd already had similar emails from others besides our friend......

Presumably, like some hideous chain letter, it just goes on and on.

It's very convenient having programs which store email addresses automatically, but at the same time address books fill up fast, even with people one doesn't 'know.' I was staggered to find I had something like 45 contacts in the village. Useful, when I wanted to reach as many as possible, but a boon to harvesting programs like that.

Glad to say that Malwarebytes has fixed my friend's computer, to the extent that she can email now, but I know from bitter experience, once something like that happens, it's a long time before one feels that the bug is truly 'dead.'

No, I don't use AdBlock..... yet. I've only been using Firefox for a couple of months, since IE stopped working properly with this site.

There are some excellent add ons for Firefox, they really are worth a try. My favourites are:
Last Pass: creates and remembers random passwords for you
Lazarus: remembers text that you have typed so that if you lose a post part way through Lazarus will have remembered it for you
The Camelizer: tracks the (very frequent) price changes on Amazon
Property Bee: tracks price changes on Right Move
WOT: web of trust - indicates in your list of search results in your search engine if the website that the results link to can be trusted
Colorful Tabs: just makes the tabs different colours - purely cosmetic
Speed Dial: Tiled links to your favourite websites - very customisable and very useful
Adblock Plus - removes online advertising and blocks known malware domains

    All free!

Just read your last post Davesnave - it is horrible when your 'puter gets infected, especially if you lose important stuff trying to sort it out. There is a real nasty going around atm that encrypts everything on your HDD, and you have to pay a 'fee' to disable the encryption. Apparently there is currently no way round this if you get infected

So important to back up your data on a separate HDD.

Our 'puter is at the hospital as it was infected the other day.

It's filled with work stuff & other important stuff - It's too important to tinker with myself. Last time I click on links.
