    Oh dear, that's a blow lir. :(

It's lovely having hens running free, but I guess this sort of thing happens when they do.

Sounds wrong, but is there any way you could separate your hens into two groups - precious and..er...less precious, then keep the first group more securely? :o

    No.

I accept we'll lose them to predation. Its natural. I cannot accept keeping them in concentration camps. I won't keep my horses in tiny paddocks or stabled twenty four seven either :o. If I were going to do that, I might as well just....buy eggs tbh. We all have different motivations, And mine is to see things living closer to how they are meant to. Its certainly not to shovel poop:rotfl:

Foud. The second millefleur and a cockerel alive, So four survivors. No one on the yard was touched.

    I hate foxes today.

I'm pretty sure its a fox, a fox or a dog that isn't mine. All my little white chickens bar the two roosters over with the big hens.

All I have left is one millefleur and one mongrel bantam. Was over in a flash, as soon as I heard I ran out but the offender had nipped through the back yard,....there were chickens everywhere. Soft sheep eggs all over the show.

I found the surviving millefleur hiding near my boiler room. No gates open or anything.

I cannot find one of the millefleurs, so I guess it took that with it, :(.

I cannot believe it killed my little cotton jojo snow ball. :(.

    :(:( so sorry...

whilst i love foxes im not blind to problem ones and culling. you may need to find a good shot to remove it as if its got the location it will return.
having said that , check it wasnt a mutt [like my loss] from "down the road" ;):o

Really sorry to hear you have lost some of your chickens. Not a good day. What a horrible thing to happen. At least during their lives they were able to express themselves naturally and weren't forced to live in stressful cramped conditions.

ive been hauling out all my bed throws [rather a lot!] and getting them to the launderette in relays.. bit expensive but will all be stored nice and fresh then. some are summer thinner, others are massive and thick/padded.. the lady at the launderette today asked me how many beds i have ???:D :rotfl:
i said im just a compulsive thrower ......:D

she's good tho, i leave em and she does it all, i just then pick em up :)

i am now feeling more settled to the move.

LIR... i will find you some more snowballs :D

LIR is helping me out [hopefully ] by homing an unusual animog for me... scare the sh*te out of any intruders..:rotfl::rotfl:

Excellent news alfie. Really pleased for you - sounds like you have them on the run now. It's great to get the money back, but why should you have to deal with all the hassle in the first place?

So Davesnave is that the conclusion of 'polegate' now?

  • Oh no LIR - I'm so sorry :(:(:( Were we to have chickens - something we thought long and hard about when this was going to be our final move - I'd want them to have freedom to roam too, so I can understand you not wanting to *lock them up* I love foxes too, but whether this was done by fox or dog, damn them

Dave - sounds like you've been putting us to shame again with your efforts - our day has been punctuated by deliveries of building materials and visits to flooring suppliers, so not much achieved here :o

BD - lovely pics by Mr BD :)
