Oooh Rhiwfield, it's not in Art Nouveau or Arts & Crafts style is it by any chance? I'm after one of these to summon DH from his ivory tower (study in one of the attic bedrooms, lol!) down to dinner.......

Was frosty here last night, so icy our oldest puss (13 and the only one that ventures out, our other two are house cats) finally decided it was too cold to go hunting and allowed us to entice him in with some roast chicken :D

More bathroom stuff going on here today - DH racing against the clock to get all tiling, Karndean etc done ready for Wednesday. Might finally be able to have a shower here on Friday/Saturday - haven't had one of those since we sold our last house in May 2011 :T

Edited to add, we do have a bath though, so don't really smell, lol!

    We use walkie-talkies. :o
They come in really useful particularly when one or the other of us is out on the land or in one of the outbuildings.
Indoors we tend to use the internal options on the phones.

Hi Phoebe, sorry, neither Art Nouveau or Arts and Crafts though it does have some age.

We just wish we could find a decent phone that could cover the who,e house. We got a super long range BT one but it fades in the second half of the kitchen. It certainly doesn't cover anything like the distance that they said it would, whoch would be,the land too. Not being able to use the phone in the kitchen is a pita

Our phones are getting quite old now but I do remember that, when we were updating the phones, we were told that the then new digitals wouldn't be able to cope with things like the thick walls as well as the analogue. There are 'blind spots' but we can reach most of the house & a good part of the land with no problems. The signal gets lost if we are inside another building or have a building between us & the phone base. That's where the walkie-talkies are useful.

Can't you just get another handset to plug into a normal socket in the kitchen? Only the base has to plug into a phone socket.
Alternatively, they used to (presumably still do) sell boosters which plug into the mains & allow handsets to work in rooms they otherwise wouldn't.

The kids next door have walkie-talkies. Not sure why, because they are never out of parental sight, but I'd fear we'd get on their airwaves if we bought some.

We use a hand bell, but the mobile works in most places here now.

Just back from the carol concert. As usual, it was cold in there and the food was brilliant. Returning to the car, I noted that one of our local farmers has the registration number MOO 4 EWE :rotfl::rotfl:

Perhaps we need to shout really loud together and Alfie will hear us, though she may be seeing her Dad or looking after Mum.

    ALFIE!!!!!

Thanks Rhiwie, I really appreciate you coming back to me :D It was worth asking, just in case! We missed a gorgeous one at a fair recently that unfortunately was sold just moments before we saw it :(

We have the same issue as LIR, in that our phones only work in around two thirds of the kitchen (plus most of the rest of the house, although not tried the old annexe as it's not in use yet :o). We did have extra phone sockets put in when we rewired last year, but as only certain parts of the house are useable we haven't really bothered to plug phones in everywhere.....

It doesn't help that DH is always playing loud music - usually Mr Numan, as is the case right now, lol - and also suffers from selective hearing :rotfl:

We just holler up the stairs :rotfl:

I have been a small ball of grump all afternoon. Finally the unit has been built but it is monstrous and looks ridiculous where it was supposed to go so I have to replan the layout of the room :( We have moved things into a different position and will leave it for a few days to see what we think of them.

We did manage to go for a walk in my favourite local gardens and were struck by the gorgeous smell of the Viburnum and now we are trying to figure out where we could plant one in the garden :D

Yesterday I ordered a window bird feeder for the nursery so I will need to read up on what to feed and when.

Had a lovely day with hubby and the rugrats in Tenby today where we picked the Ixworth up. It's a beast of a bird for a 7 month old. Weighty chest!

We planted a viburnum tinus 'Eve Price' over Eric ferret's grave because he died at this time of year. She is also the smallest of the varieties.

The following spring I accidentally strimmed Eve within an inch of her life, but the violent haircut worked and she grew back extra-bushy.

    She's a real picture this year. :)
