My friend successfully grows a peach in a tub in the little courtyard at the back of his house, in Dundee.
One of my plot mates grows figs and has found a really good tree locally in Leeds. We also have a white peach out in the open which is very good although it was supposed to be a nectarine!
And amongst my madness on the plot I grow a white seedless grape called Lakemont. OK, has not done anything the last two years (crap weather at flowering time) but prior to that I had grapes for two years. And the leaves are great for dolmades.
I am going to shift a cutting into the garden where the SE aspect and shelter from N/NE and E winds might help a bit.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Been on the phone to FD this afternoon. Apparently the underwriters approved the mortgage (again) yesterday. Nobody bothered to ring up and tell me. What is the point of dealing with something urgently if you don't bother letting the customer know the outcome :mad::mad::mad: (especially when it comes to mortgage approvals between exchange and completion)
Still main thing is that the mortgage is approved. As Dave said banks are starting to hand out mortgages with only 5% deposits again - madness - so I would have been surprised if mine had been rejected. But like plumbers and mechanics, banks suck their teeth and you never quite know which way they will jump.
Busy weekend packing planned.
LIR and Alfie - hope you are feeling better. It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Thanks better days,
I'm actually feeling really good.
. Something seemed to click last week and I have had some really good days. Of course, I've had over 18 months essentially on my bottom doing next to nowt so I am very unfit and tiring easily, but yesterday I went out for the day and went really well. I had one flop in monsoon, which was embarrassing, but the staff were really kind and got me a glass of water and offered me a biscuit and I explained I was dodgy and that I felt fine but it was hot in there after cold outside and I was probably a bit unused to things. But a whole day out, no nap, no really unhandleable pain, not much visual disturbance. like a grown up and every thing.
I have another trip up to new consultant in london very soon and I think I might just sit there and say....'s'alright, getting better by myself now, ta anyhow though'

Keep your beautiful hair on....:D. I'll be good
. The plan was to try and be Ill next time up there though so he could see me bad, so its ironic I'm perking up, lol. I was going to start extending myself a bit this week any way (i.e staying out of bed more) so that they could see me . 0 -
Alfie ..... so glad you are on the ball:D
BD.... My youngest said he would put the e-books on the 'thing' I do love proper books, BUT if I can get the types of books I read for free, then in the long run, it would be cheaper.
Can you read online magazines on it??
Do they have gardening, eco, sustainable living type e-books for free??Work to live= not live to work0 -
LFS, you have a great spirit, in your shoes I'd be a total wimp

Lir, glad to hear you've had a better time of it.
Alf, I'm waiting for when you post some really good news!
E-books? I can see the advantages but also the disadvantages. Reminds me a bit of music/film media where you paid more than once to get the media in a new format
I bought some antiquarian books recently that have retained a value for over 100 years, giving pleasure over all that time. Will we ever say that about kindles and downloads in that format? 0 -
CTC - here's a quick search I have done for you for freebie 'home and garden' books on kindle
http://uk.freereadfeed.com/?gd=list&s=rating&va=minimal&ca[]=362350031#g (you will need to copy and paste the link - I can't get it to display properly)
Here are the most popular ones in Home and Garden on Amazon to scroll through - cats are clearly king! There are a fair few for 99p or less
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_st?qid=1385146912&rh=n%3A341677031%2Cn%3A!341678031%2Cn%3A341689031%2Cn%3A362350031&sort=paidsalesrank
And search again by price low to high to see the freebies first. Anything you fancy? Don't forget that the free books change - some are only free for a day, others seem to be permanently free.
You can get magazines and newspapers for kindle (many have their own apps too which are free) and lots do a 30 day trial so you can see if you like the publication. It is cool having a newspaper delivered to your kindle every morning so you can read the paper without getting out of bed (can be a bit pricey though and the publications website are free to access)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=sr_kk_1?rh=i%3Adigital-text%2Ck%3Amagazines&keywords=magazines&ie=UTF8&qid=1385145167
I'm not a massive fan of newspapers and magazines on kindles, but they may well be easier to read on a tablet as the screen is bigger.
Be interested to hear how you get on....
rhiwfield - you're right - I doubt my free kindle download book of chicken diseases will be worth anything in a 100 years
- it will probably be obsolete with information being beamed wirelessly directly to our brains on demand
:D:D The chickens will be as daft as ever though

LIR - so pleased you are improving, it must be great to get out and experience a bit of normality (apart from a funny turn in Monsoon that is). Monsoon have some lovely fabrics and the cut of their clothes drape beautifully. Some things are ridiculously expensive though and there are a few naff styles.
I once had a funny turn when I was having what was supposed to be a relaxing aromatherapy massage. But it was too strong for me and I nearly passed out. Therapist scuttled off to get a flannel to cool me down and chocy biskwits to revive me. Still I smelt nice afterwards
