Task for this afternoon is sorting out wiring and loft insulation over the bathroom.
The sellers installed 12V halogens but the wiring looks a right mess. I tried to replaced with LEDs but they 'pulsed' so the driver transformers need replacing with ones that are OK with LEDs
Then the entire area needs re-insulating between joists and then covered with 20cm of further insulation to give me R36.0 -

That made my head spin :rotfl: when it comes to DIY we can just about cope with painting!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
That made my head spin...
It's a job I've been putting off but with another freezing night forecast, I figured must crack on.
While I'm in the loft, will be installing a new Freeview aerial for the TV in my study; too mean to pay for a 2nd box from Virgin media0 -
I really should brush up my DIY skills as I am more than capable just lacking in the knowledge
There has been a real drop in temperature here today, so much so that I am chewing over turning the fire on to take the chill off the room. I would also dearly love a big bar of chocolate or slab of cake, neither of which I am allowed. Sadly an apple didn't quite cut it.Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -
OK ITSME...
:D:D:D:D but it will still make me cry:rotfl:
I love this property, and in the scale of things on prices of property this isn't a bad price..
It is sooooo me... When Alfie came down, we both agreed that an open ceiling would look fab in the main bedroom up the ranch..

Calm with a bit of sunshine here and 26C, but that was in the polytunnel!
Temperature in there will be like a yo-yo now.
I have picked all the sweet peppers left in pots and binned the plants, but the ones in the deep bed still show no sign of giving up, so I'll leave them for now. Loads of chillies, which I'm distributing....
I forgot the honesty seeds I pocketed on a walk a month ago, so they went though the washing machine and I only recovered four.Three of those have germinated. :rotfl:
Otherwise, I've had good germination with winter salad stuff and chard, but some things want to damp-off. We really had to re-fit the side screens, but now the tunnel is much more humid.
£300? Oh dear, a secondhand Hayterette, I suppose! I can't do frivolous. My DW persuaded me to buy something unnecessary costing £285 about 6 years ago. I hardly used it, didn't want it and today it's worth about £30. That sums up frivolous to me!0 -
Actually I might save the £300 until spring and then get someone to prep my garden for me ready to plant, now that would be a real treat!!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0

I'd probably put the £300 away for a rainy day.
How long it would stay put away for, given that rainy days are the norm around here, I'm not so sure :rotfl:
Edit: Watch your river on Monday, Dave. Loads of rain expected.0 -

Can't quite see either of them from here, but I often hear them. On Pete's land, the little one is more fickle than the bigger one. It took his spuds last year.
Even in those floods, the road here was usually passable, as was the one that goes up to the ridge road, and from there to the Link Road and all points east/west.
But I will bear your warning in mind, as I'm in Exeter briefly on Monday, and the route from there potentially difficult in a few places.0 -
Wiring in the loft is grim indeed - will need to refit quite a lot so off to Screwfix with a shopping list!
On the plus side, TV aerial is now installed so bedroom TV can get freeview and I won't need to use the iPad to watch TV in bed.
Also, got around to framing and hanging the canvas art prints of views of Iona by Peploe I bought a few week back.0
