my friend made me laugh when she was telling me 3 sheds had blown over in the storm at the allotments. she said the chaps there reckoned hers stayed put cos its was so full of sh*te :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

she said "that,ll pay em for being so bluddy organised " :rotfl:

Ours should be storm proof then :rotfl:

  • well this will be a three sided shelter rather than shed. made from reclaimed wooden staging that was about to be burnt after a warehouse was cleared out. Base is recycled paving slabs from freecycle. will need to buy roofing and guttering though. will be using it to sit down away from the wind and sun, growing things over and collecting rainwater as we have no water source down there.

Glad to hear you're improving Rummer.

Alfie FLW on the bay again, but it seems very slow at the mo.

Dave why not shock & awe & go in a kilt! We all know how you like dressing up in skirts!

Really cold here again & forecast bad again for next week - so fed up with all the wet. Must put the ewes inby with Zebedee - he's baahing for them & sniffing the air - they roll back their lips & show their teeth do tups - they can smell through their mouth I believe!

Physio this afternoon & feel as if my head was unscrewed & screwed back on again & again & again & again.......I've got a blinding headache which is possibly related.

Electrician down today to put electric into the house, but we've got the wrong box - so will have to go back into Inverness & exchange for the right one. Loads of deer on the way home & more wild goats down.
We go to pick up the 2nd kitchen tomorrow! It's really rather naff indeed!

I put concrete blocks in the chicken shed pre-storm. I've kept them nearby now, just in case.

Glad you are on the mend, Rummer. :)

I'm not very tall, Better Days, so a few extra pounds make quite a difference. I was prepared to shed them for DD1's wedding last year, but I won't do that again until DD2 makes it necessary or the Quack tells me to.

I loathe clothes shopping, as very little fits.

I was in Marks & Suspenders today and noticed that an item, too long on me, said "Standard" on the label. So, I asked an assistant if that meant there was, maybe, a non-standard shorter version?

"No" she said, it means the opposite; it's only available in standard size, but we do have a big & tall range."

"Thanks," I replied. That must be really nice.....for the big & tall people!" :wall:

Lest anyone forgets, I am 1/2 Scottish and I do have a tartan. :D
    What a brilliant idea! 1ecossais.gif

I think I've got a male role in the Panto, but no one's said anything officially yet.
  • Hi everyone, thank you for the warm welcome.

Also thanks for all the suggestions, we've definitely planning to keep our thumbs in many pies and see what works for us.

Today hasn't been the most productive owing to the weather, but we've spent the day sanding beams and painting walls in the main house ready for us to move back in, out of the holiday cottage. We have been thinking of staying put in the cottage and renting out our house as a holiday let. It would bring in a much bigger income than the two bed cottage and we're quite happy here.... another thing to keep me thinking long into the night.

I hope everyone else has had a more productive day than we.

I feel your pain Dave, or rather Mr BD does - trousers are usually too long for him too - he is currently consoling himself spending a two and a half long (so far) hour down the pub adding to his waistline.

He only went with £10 which he borrowed from my purse so I'm not sure how he is funding the expedition.

But don't M&S do 'less long' leg length trousers? They do for ladies wear.

    Is it roi-colere.giffor the Panto?

    That made me giggle chollie

do you have enough space to stay in the holiday let for the time being, and how would you feel about letting out your home especially if there was damage done?
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

Never mind Dave - next time.......

farmer's Wife - hello. That would be more financially lucrative renting out the bigger house as you say. Would that be seasonal? Or do you think you'd get Christmas rentals?
  • lostinrates - we have ten acres and its in four fields...just depends how you look at it...the big growers further down the road could put our entire farm in the turning circle of one of their tractors! And that is a lovely light fitting by the way  (I can talk, we have industrial strip lights in the living room and bedrooms!)
Row of potatoes before it hulled it down, loving the 1950's spinner, makes me grin everytime we use it! (and I'm sure I can hear dad chuckle on the breeze as he loved it too)
So, rain having stopped work, decided to raid the last(oh I wish, but I can't reach the rest) of the grapes and make some more grape juice for canning. I don't drink:A so no fermenting for me (mis-spent youth, technicolour yawning thanks to shots..now I have a sherry at xmas, and there's medicinal blackberry [STRIKE]brandy[/STRIKE] cordial)
An hour on here..a hot bath with bubbles ,that was what I missed when we first got this van..it was only half a van ..so I had to wait for bath and toilet and kitchen and we used a tiny caravan for cooking and measly shower and that was BAD in the winter. Its all well and good this here good life, but a flushing toilet and a bath and I'm anyones! (Just ask OH;))
Ooh I remember..pit latrine when I was a kid! Oh dear, I'd blocked that out!
I'd better go before anymore old memories come back (like walking with greatgrandmother to pick up sticks, then going back to her tiny caravan and making a fire:D or the holiday home caravan, that was so cold you scraped the ice from the inside of the windows in the morning!)
Hope everyone stays warm and well this weekend x
